This Regency-era romance is book one of the Lost Princesses trilogy. In the early 19th century, the three princesses of the fictional European country of Beaumontagne are thrust into exile, fleeing revolutionaries and foul treachery. Now in Scotland, middle sister Clarice uses her royal status as part of a cosmetics-selling scam, confident that no one will really believe that she's a princess. Her enterprise soon catches the eye of Richard, the Earl of Hepburn, who is ensnared by Clarice's stunning good looks but calculating enough to use her to further his scheme of vengeance against the man who dishonored him.

Not one of my favorite books by her. I got bored with the book many times and read a few other books while reading this one. It is too complicated in the beginning trying to piece the story together and you keep thinking there must be another book that came first... but no this is the first in the series. I might read the next two but it might be awhile.

One of Scotland's most dangerous men, Robert MacKenzie is dazzled by the enchanting beauty who rides into the town he is sworn to defend. Though he is wary of the exquisite stranger, Clarice stirs emotions within him that Robert buried deeply years before. And now he must have her at any cost, vowing to gain her trust through the powers of his sensuous seduction.
Torn between her need to protect her secrets and her aching desire for the dark, tormented earl of Hepburn, Clarice is pulled into Robert's glamorous world..and into his perilous plan for justice and revenge. And with the winds of treachery swirling around them, a runaway princess must draw Robert's heart from the shadows and make him believe in happily-ever-after.

A romance set in the early 1800s in Scotland. Sticks with the typical romance formula, but has some good twists at the end. The first of a series of three.

This got off to a really slow start, I actually put it aside and read a few others then picked it back up, I'm glad I did it was amusing and while not the greatest love story of all time, it was nice and had bouts of humor which I enjoy.
