Dennis includes numerous well-chosen (mostly) black and white illustrations to accompany a brief but detailed considertion of English silver from 1536-1820. Most of the pieces are very ornate, exept during the Commonwealth. Milady's dressing room sets include over a dozen piecees, silver furniture enjoyed some popularity during the restoration, and some ambassadors were fitted out with all the silverware needed in their appointment such as was given to the Duke of Wellington when he was dispatched to the court of Louis XVIII.
