A great children's humor story !! Your kids will love it.
It all started the day Nate Twichell's hen laid this enourmous egg and tried to hatch it!
Nate lives up in Freedom, New Hampshire. It's just a little town with a few houses along one street, and a store and a church. Oh yes, and a school. Not much happens in Freedom. Nate mostly has to look after the chickens, although he does get to fish once in awhile. But everything changed the day the hen laid that enourmous egg. It was so big Nate had to help her turn it every few hours!
Nate worked so hard that it seemed to him he practically hatched the egg himself. The hen and Nate's father and Dr. Zeimer all showed a lot of interest too. Who wouldn't? With such a big egg you couldn't guess whether a whole brood of chicks would hatch out of it or what.
Well, what did? You'd better let Ned himself tell you in "The Enourmous Egg".

This is a paperback book.
Nate, a 12-year-old boy living in New Hampshire, takes over the care of an enormous egg laid by one of the family's hens, and the last thing he expects to hatch from it is a triceratops! Illustrations.

This classic like many others written in the 1950's was deaccessioned by a library. Their copy was twenty years old.

The children lived on a farm in NH and did CHORES. Nate's hen laid an ENORMOUSE egg and the hilarity and plot take off. When I read this aloud to MY kids in the 1980's they loved it and it was their first civics lesson. Kids CAN and DO write their representatives and affect policy in Washington! They can donate and solicit funds for projects they care about. And the more unusual or rare something is the more we need to pay attention and try to learn from it. Despite the party line telephone this is a very contemporary book!

The illustrations are as good as Rahl Dahl's.

This is a charming, wonderfully written story about a boy whose hen lays an enormous egg....and out hatches a triceratops! It's a wonderful story about a boy, his new, unexpected pet, and the uproar his new little dinosaur causes in his sleepy little town. I absolutely loved this story as a child myself, and then found it again to read to my own children. It's an absolute keeper, one that all generations can enjoy. I was a huge reader as a child (still am!), and of all the hundreds and hundreds of books I read as a kid, this is one of the few that I remember so well and so fondly. Great book!
