It all started the day Nate Twichell's hen laid this enourmous egg and tried to hatch it!
Nate lives up in Freedom, New Hampshire. It's just a little town with a few houses along one street, and a store and a church. Oh yes, and a school. Not much happens in Freedom. Nate mostly has to look after the chickens, although he does get to fish once in awhile. But everything changed the day the hen laid that enourmous egg. It was so big Nate had to help her turn it every few hours!
Nate worked so hard that it seemed to him he practically hatched the egg himself.The hen and Nate's father and Dr. Zeimer all showed a lot of interest too. Who wouldn't? With such a big egg you couldn't guess whether a whole brood of chicks would hatch out of it or what.
