Introduction to very interesting new Pratchett characters, not as amusing as first 2 Discworld books, but still good.

Another great DiscWorld novel. In this book we meet several new characters. First is Granny Weatherwax a witch who is really good at heart and takes on the task of teaching the first female wizard in the history of DiscWorld. When a powerful wizard makes the mistake of passing his powers on to the eighth son of an eighth son, right before dying, only to find out that the son is a daughter, Granny takes on the task of teaching the child witchcraft, since women are not wizards. Needless to say that Esk, the 9 year old female wizard has other plans. lol

Overall a wonderful, engrossing story. I love Esk and hope that we see much more of her as she grows up as well as Granny Weahterwax who single handedly changes the ways of Wizards.

Pratchett takes on the gender wars. Or skrmishes. Or something like that. Still, it is amusing to see Granny Weatherwax deal with the Unseen University and its inhabitants.

I absolutely love the Discworld Series and this book is even better than the last book. Fun and the best kind of humor, silly and still manages to be some kind of smart.

I loved this, of course! I've actually read this twice before, but it's been so long ago that I only remembered the first half of the book. That's one benefit of grad school having destroyed my memory: books I love can be like new again! This was a fun little adventure and I'm always up for a story that parodies gender stereotypes, especially if that story firmly lands on the side of equality. I don't think I've seen Esk turn up in any of the other Discworld books I've read, but there are a lot I haven't read, so I'm hoping I might run across her again. She was great.

The beginning of the discworld witches books. Very funny, very satirical. Made me laugh out loud several times.

The whole discworld series is such a fun read. An adventurous romp through an impossible world. It's lighthearted, but engaging enough to keep you reading at night long after you should have turned out the light!
