I previously had a Nook original and a Kindle 2.  Now I have the Nook Color - which I love.   Amazon has just come out with a whole new line of Kindles plus the Fire.    Wondering your thoughts on having more than 1 device?  Why you love what you have etc.

For me, the Nook Color is a great device with so many options plus the apps are great.  My only complaint with it is the lack of being able to organize into folders like the Kindle does.  NC does have the shelf feature but it's not designed the way I would want it to work.  I would like it, once a book is shelved, to remove it from the main library page, which it does not.

I have a Sony Touch ereader.  I also have a little cheap tablet computer that I can read on if I want to.  I don't really want to read on the tablet computer.  It's backlit so I find it harder on my eyes.  Much prefer the Sony for reading.

I like the Sony more for what it doesn't have than what it does.  I don't want a WiFi or 3G ereader.  Too tempting to shop for ebooks that way.  I don't mind downloading them to my computer first.  That way I have a backup of all my ebooks at my fingertips.  Calibre makes it very easy to put anything I want to read on my ereader and organize my ebooks.

I don't want an ereader that does a bunch of other things.  Mine can store music and pictures but I've never tried out either function.  It does have the ability for me to write a note on it.  I've never needed to do that though but I could see it coming in handy.

My husband and son just bought me a Nook color for my birthday! I'm so excited to start using it but have to work too much till the weekend. Way more than I wanted in terms of price but I'm keeping :) Psych!

I do have to admit the $79 price of the Kindle w/Special offers Wifi does make it pretty tempting.  But then I remember how I dislike Amazon and don't buy from them.  Yeah, yeah, I know you don't have to buy ebooks for the Kindle from Amazon and they always have a ton of freebies.  I have only ever once ran into a freebie ebook that I wanted that I couldn't find on any site other than Amazon.

i have a kindle 1, kindle 3 and kobo.

I was looking back at kindleboards and the kindle 1 came out in sep 07 for $399, and sold out in 5 1/2 hours & then was out of stock until april.  I couldnt justify that price, but after kindle 2 was out they had some refurbs for Kindle 1 for $150, which I could justify.  The only disadvantage I saw for kindle is that it had no library lending at the time (just changed this month), so that is why i got the kobo at Borders going out of business when I finally saw my local library had ebooks.  & I had to see how text to speech worked (not very well), hence the kindle 3.  I prefer the controls on the kindle to the control on the kobo, but the kobo screen looks fine too.

I like amazon and I like 3G delivery and the 3G web browser was nice to have when I was in London.  Doesnt work very fast but nice in a pinch to look up something when you dont have all the smart phone stuff like me.  I think the 3g delivery is easier than loading from the computer or setting up my kindle with my wireless & I like easy.  Library books wont deliver via 3g, but it wasn't hard to do, just another step that I would prefer to avoid.  I also think it was easier to get the library book on the kindle than it was to get it on the kobo (even without 3g).

Now I do think that all these are only good for text & since I am reading novels it is fine for me.  If I wanted magazines I would think a tablet would be needed.

Also I got the kindle before the nook came out, so now I prefer the kindle cause it is what I know and I dont bother to look at the nook more closely.

Me too.  And I've tried for a while now to justify to myself getting one of the new Kindle's, but really, there's nothing they do that my Nook Color doesn't do.

My thoughts:  I bought the NookTouch when it came out and I love it.  Looking at the new Kindles, no regrets at all.  If I were choosing between a KindleFire and a NookColor today, I'm sure the Fire is far superior.  The Nook, after all, is two years old--that's OLD in this kind of technology.  But the tablet-lites (NookColor or the new KindleFire) were never an option for me because I am on a computer all day and if I try to read on a backlit screen, it kills my eyes within an hour.  And I read 2.5 hours a day (commuting). So it was always e-ink for me.  I LOVE my NookTouch.  I don't see any indication that the KindleTouch has anything over on it.

Wondering your thoughts on having more than 1 device?

i don't have a problem with that, but i only have one for now.  :)  though really, i'm not sure i want to try to remember what device has what books, and definitely not take two when i go on vacation.

i have a K3 (now called Kindle Keyboard), and i think it's great.  when i did my comparison shopping a year ago, i didn't like the balance on the Nook when holding it, or the little touch screen at the bottom because it felt awkward for me to reach and it killed battery time, and it seemed heavier than the Kindle.  i only wanted e-Ink, since reading with the backlight kills my eyes after a while, so NookColor was out.  and really, i don't want a touchscreen so the new Kindle Touch isn't that appealing either.  i do use the keyboard on the Kindle pretty regularly, to add notes to my books, and to play a few games.

the only reason i'm tempted to pick up a new one is to get access to the special offers, some of which i would have been happy to use.  when i was shopping DH wasn't interested in one without a touchscreen, so maybe he'd like a Kindle Touch he could read library books on and i could get the special offers.  :)  i can't see buying one with a chance to touch it and try it out though.
