I've never read this genre. Any that you'd recommend to start with?

Thanks!

Any particular genre you prefer? Romantic suspense? Paranormal? Historical? Or just anything?

There's something for everyone in erotica.  Menage, cowboys, bondage, BDSM, m/m, or just plain old one man/one woman.  Not to mention paranormals and aliens and ghosts and demons and shapeshifters.

What kinds of stories are you looking for?

Istarted with Lora Leigh and branched out from there. I'll read anything she writes.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll start with the authors mentioned and check out their websites. I'm not really sure as to what kind I want to read. I might try to find some romance or contemporary, not really into the paranormal but I'm willing to check out most anything.

Thanks again!

There is a long list of erotica in the 'Games' category under the thread- 'Den of Sin: Chat Room'. Scroll down the first page and you will find recommended authors, books, and series.

the Sweet books by Maya Banks are very good. They are contemporary romantic suspense. The Lorelei James Rough Riders series is very good, contemporary cowboys.

if you go to ellorascave.com and samhainpublishing.com you can read book descriptions and samhain's is good about the funny 'warnings'..you can get an idea of whats' out there then post again about specific types - like if you like light/playful bondage, big-time S&M, humiliation or not, menage whre guys don't do each other, menage where everyone does everyone. paranormal, paranormal with extra, um, parts..stable girsl or ponies..THAT discussion thread was an eye opener for sure!

my faves are Lora Leigh's Forbidden Pleasure (permanent menage), Lisa Marie Rice, Lena Matthews' Jokers Wild trilogy, Jory Strong's Crime Tells. Lisa's Gift - think this is by Mackenzie MacKade but deals with a menage and bdsm with a beginner so it kinda explains a bit of it. it's a bit sad though but pretty good. also like sarah mccarty for historical western. lacey alexander is newish to me but seems dependable. she has same sex scenes sometimes from the few I've read..one didn't and another did.

If you're gonna buy credits c heck out the book bazaar - people sell them for a lot cheaper than the kiosk. most seem to do paypal but there are a few who acccept money orders or even checks I think.

erotic romance sometimes takes a long time to get to your turn in line unless you're doing the games or virtual box. Emma Holly is sometimes available and sometimes one of Lora Leigh's mmpb.

Emma Holly and Shannon McKenna were the ones who got me into erotica. Holly has a little bit of everything - historical, paranormal and contemporary. McKenna's straight up suspense. And good luck with your reading slump! Erotica actually is what pulled me from mine, and then shortly after that I discovered PBS. And I'm not ashamed to admit I'm obsessed! lol

ETA: I also like Megan Hart, Lacey Alexander, Sylvia Day, Lora Leigh, Lori Foster and Shayla Black/Shelley Bradley.

OK, since Maurine was kind enough to ask initially, I'd like to pipe up and ask for recs also.  I'm new-ish to erotica (that this forum both sparked an interest in and fanned the flames of!).  Using Susanna's guidelines, I'm looking for books with light/playful bondage, menage (have only read ones where the guys touch the girl only, but would love a rec for one that involves touching by all parties), paranormals are fine, contemp.  I've basically flooded my WL with books that have been offered from the WL thread, but it's been hit or miss.  I'm hoping that since you fine ladies helped start this addiction, you can help feed the beast.  ;)

The ones I've really enjoyed so far have been 'Decadent' and 'Wicked Ties' by Shayla Black, 'Wicked' by Sasha White (this is the one that took my erotica virginity ), 'Forbidden Pleasure' by Lora Leigh, 'Take Me' by Bella Andre and (I don't know if this is technically erotica, but) and 'Too Much Temptation' by Lori Foster.  There are more, but these really stuck with me.

And Jessica, I'll take a double helping of those cookies!

I liked Jory Strong's Crime Tells (Lyric's Cop - alpha guy, rough play but woman can take and dish out just fine), Cady's cowboy(probably themore tame of the 3), Calista's Men (whoo eee 3 some but guys are with girl only but at the same time; don't 'do' each other)

I've been reading a little of lacey alexander - so far there's been playful and menage...some even have 2 guys and i'm pretty sure in one the guys did do each other. one couple was the 'main' HEA but everyone seemed ok with it.

samantha kane has a 3 some and the guys 'do' each other..don't remmber much of the storyline sinc eI was sorta, um, skimming through to see if it was hot enough - The courage to Love I think was the title.

lorelei james has mega-menages - read the first in a cowboy series and didn't care that much for it but others have liked the series (I think after 3 I lost track of w ho's doing what or something!) 3 guys and pretty sure 2 were together at some point in the book.

light/playful shorter stories - Charlene Teglia's Wild wild west and satisfaction guaranteed. have some others by her in mt tbr

I also like sarah mccarty for alpha male western historical (though there's a lot of violence in some but not by the hero), and lisa marie rice for cold ruthless alpha male who adores the female and falls for her completely

Thanks Susanna for the recommendations; they sound like exactly what I'm looking for!  I've now added a ton of new books to my WL, but I may break down and buy some.  Christmas seems sooooo far away.....

also Lena Matthews has a trilogy - joker's wild - Call Me is the first and it's the lightest/most playful...the 2nd is Three Nights and it's sexy but the guy has issues about kids and commitment that luckily the woman is tough enough to deal with..the 3rd deals with a woman who has weight issues..Iliekd it but the g uy really expected her to just 'get over it' so that added a bit of tension.

eta: the first erotic romance books I bought were 2 from ellora's cave 'white hot holidays'..think it was vol 2 I liked best..but anyways a bunch ofreally short stories varying from paranormal to playful to historical..depending on the author..good way to try out different books/authors.
