I've seen this happen a few times in my 5 years as a member, but don't understand why it occurs.

the book, "Alex Cross, Run" is showing up in my BIR under the letter E instead of the A's. When I had it on my WL several versions were correct, but this one version was under the E's.   ISBN-13: 9781455521500 - ISBN-10: 1455521507 - Book Type: Paperback

Because the field information that you see on screen (display) is probably not the actual field contents (database) that get sorted. Mostly, it's the same, but sometimes it's different.

So the web site sorts on the database field contents, then renders a display of that to your screen. 

That's why under author sorts, you will see that sometimes "Angie W. Evans" will be sorted correctly under Evans mostly, and every once in a while a book will sort under W. Because in the database entry for that book, somehow the last name of the author got stored as "W. Evans" instead of "Evans".

Looks the same on screen to you when you just see the whole name as the display name. but when the system sorts by last name, obviously you get a difference.

Sometimes I've had success by doing a book data edit, deleting the whole title (or author, if it's an author alphabetization problem) and typing it in again.  In the "reason for edit" box, mention what you are trying to do.  It may take a couple of weeks after approval for the alphabetization to change, but sometimes it works.

If this is a specific copy of "Alex Cross, Run", it would be helpful to include its ISBN here to see if that offers clues to sleuths.  For example, I found a copy of the book listed on PBS with the title "Alex Cross Run Export" 9781846057847. So, perhaps the "E" is somehow connected with an Export edition of the book? Without more information it's hard to say.

I added it to my WL and got the same result -- Alex was hiding among the E's.  I'll put through an edit.  No guarantees...

ETA: I put through an edit for Kelly's book, too.  We'll see if there's any change in 2 or 3 weeks.

I had this happen to me with this book: The Taker by Alma Katsu, ISBN 9781439197059. It would show up in the L's instead of the T's!

I submitted an edit but the closest we could get it to move was to the S's. Never did figure out why though!
