Shipwrecked Anglo Lucas Morgan falls in love with his Mexican rescuer who hates Anglos. Land is the big issue in this book. So many proud Mexican families lost their land to Anglos when California became a state. Eventually, the guy gets the girl (surprise, surprise) and they get all of the land.
