Typical, zany Robbins writing - woven into a story about cowgirls with whips and a girl with oversized thumbs. This is a female-empowering novel and I was impressed with the confident characters Robbins created such as Bonanza Jellybean. He makes them somehow unforgettable and timeless. Quick read - you're in for a wild ride when you pick this one up.

A totally crazy (wonderful) Tom Robbins story...the plot is wild and so are the characters. It's just so much fun, but still with something to think about underneath all the farce.

Classic Tom Robbins. Fanciful, funny, weird.

If you've ever read Robbins, you know you should be prepared for some craziness; this book is no exception. Hitch a ride with Sissy Hankshaw, it's a memorable ride, indeed!

The Rubber Rose Ranch (all-girl), Sissy Hankshaw (small-town girl with big thumbs), The Countess (gay tycoon of feminine hygiene), and a cast of other outrageous characters make this one wacky, wild read!

Tom Robbins wrote this book in the early seventies and I see why it's become a classic read. It's hoot. I've read it twice and think it's time to share it.

A wonderful read that never should have been adapted to the big screen.

Tom Robbins is a great writer - very prolific and one that I enjoy reading everything he puts out. Robbins develops the most outlandish and colorful characters that you can't help yourself but to cheer on.

That being said, I was more entertained by "Jitterbug Perfume" and "Another Roadside Attraction". Don't let this stop you from reading about the only woman in the world born to hitchhike.

I give this book Two Thumbs up!

Strange tale with lots of humorous one-liners. Great for fans of Vonnegut.
