This was my 2nd book I've read from Katie MacAlister and it surely won't be the last! She writes in an amusing, entertaining way. I loved the story of the half-elf Sam and the Dark One Paen she falls in love with.

Good read with a few twists on the vamp plots. Sexy vamp hero teams up with half-elf Samantha to find a relic which will save his mother's life. Laughs, thrills and you can try to figure out who is working with, or against, who.

So far this is the best one I've read in the Dark Ones series. As the author states in a cute forward in the book, this Vampire is Scottish due to a swell fan-based requests that she write another vampire book with a Scottish hero (yes, there is a scene with a kilt). The heroine, Samantha Crosse is half-Elf and half-mortal which makes for an interesting character. The Dark One, Paen Scott (pron: pain) is the typical dark, brooding vampire, but unlike previous books he is not interested in finding his Beloved, nor does he believe Sam is his even with all the evidence to the contrary. Some very funny parts, a couple of sexy bits too. Lots of twists and turns in the plot. Overall an enjoyable read. Gave it 4 stars.
