I went to my first FOL sale this weekend and bought a good many books. I made sure to get them in good condition, no stains, pages falling out, etc. but I noticed that several of them had a corner cut out of the first cover page (before title page).  Few were the top right corner and a couple of them had half of that page cut off.

Would this make them unpostable? Otherwise, they are good to go.  Thanks.

It depends on the size of the clipping removed from the corner.  This is actually a somewhat common practice for used book sellers.  Sometimes they instead use a hole puncher somewhere on the cover.  I belive it's similar to the remainder mark (marker line along the edge of the pages, usually on bottom).  In the Help Doc regarding "swappability", under Covers it says: some used book stores cut out a small part of the cover; if the amount missing is less than 1 square inch, this is OKAY.  So, if the portion missing is less than a square inch, you should be fine :)

It's more like maybe 2 x 4 or 3x4 and then some half the page but it's not the cover of the book.  When you open the book, it is the very first page that most of the time is blank on both sides.

Since it is not a text page, it's postable in my opinion.  But since it isn't specifically covered in the postability rules, I would PM the member requesting the book, and get their okay.  When I post a "gray area" book that I will want to PM the requestor about, I add a "book note" to it that only I can see.  That reminds me of the issue months later when I get the request.

That's a good idea, about the note. Thanks Patty.  I will check if someone requests one of those books.

If the page is not a text page, especially if it is blank on both sides, I think it is 100 percent postable. You could even cut out the whole page neatly.

My library does the same, sometimes they cut off the bar code instead of just removing it or using a marker thru it. I post those with no issues so far.

I agree with Sara -- it is not a text page so no problem. I also will use a Xacto knife to just cleanly slice the page out, as my library does and that has never been a problem here for me.

I agree, if it's not the cover & not a text page...shouldn't be a problem if the book is otherwise in postable condition.

Thanks everybody.  I just wanted to make sure because this is the first time I have bought any from a FOL sale.
