I'll check and see. thanks |

Even if they aren't marked withdrawn, they are still postable. Every library book I've received but one was not marked withdrawn.

Okay , I ordered it from a seller on amazon. |

It is completely postable. Don't worry about it saying withdrawn. None of the libraries in my area do that anymore. They do scribble over the library barcode with black marker, but I just use Goo Gone to take that off. If you got it on Amazon, you can assume it has been withdrawn. Just be sure to note any requestor conditions of people who don't want ex-library books. |

I have rc no ex-library. got a message recently from a member sending me a hardcover book. They don't know what this means. |

I don't mind ex-library, but I once received one that had no indication it had been withdrawn. I contacted the library and they confirmed it was no longer an active book. That was after I bought a used book that had a local library barcode on it. I'd taken that one to the library to check on it, and it turned out to be an active library book that had gone missing. I'm a high school librarian, and I post withdrawn books on PBS. Sometimes I forget to stamp them withdrawn, but they're no longer in the system. It is a good idea to make sure, though ... I once purchased a replacement textbook via eBay, only to find that it had my district's barcode in it, and no, it hadn't been discarded (in fact, the student it had been issued to had reported it stolen, and was grateful not to have to pay for it). I reported the problem to eBay, and though I don't know exactly what happened, that particular seller seems to be gone from the site. |

Yes, they are postable and some are like new although I've noticed several members state they will not accept former library books. |

The library where I volunteer often gets school library books returned to them by mistake. Unfortunately, they tend to just be 'donated' to the used bookstore, but if I'm working when those come in I contact the school and return them if they are still the proper 'owners'. |

Can I ask the reason someone might not want an ex-library book? |
|||
|
|||
They might just not like the taped-on mylar covers, stuck in pockets and library ownership stamps. Me, I don't care, but I can understand some people would rather not. Or perhaps they want to give it to someone as a gift, match a series that they want to keep, whatever. I would say it's basically aesthetic. |

None of my ex-library books are marked withdrawn. They don't do that here. Usually just the typrical markings - tape on spine with the genre. |

A PBS friend of mine won't accept ex-library books because of allergy issues and apparently those books have been big triggers in the past for her allergies. Just another reason why someone won't accept ex-library books. |
|||
|
|||
Just curious - what type of allergies are triggered for her with ex-library books? Is it the glue, tape, markers/stamps that they use? -- Jill |

Without asking my friend, I was always under the impression that her allergies could be triggered by all the things the books could be exposed to: smoke, pet hair, dander, etc. I don't think this is the case for everyone, but seems to be for her. |

Sad your friend could never use a library because of her allergies. |

I have a no ex library RC. I don't care for the plastic wrap on the books, but mostly, I have bad connotations with the library. I grew up spending many, many hours at the public library. Until the day that a vagrant defecated throughout the 3 story building, and spread feces not only throughout the building, but on many, many books. Not even sure how he managed that much excrement?? In any case, I realize it is purely psychological, but I have never gone to a public library since. For what it is worth, I have had a few members PM me and explain that their books are in great shape, without plastic, and I always accept them, never RWAP. |
