If I PM another PBS member and they PM me back, can anyone read them?

Or, is it a private thing, between me and them?

Signed,

I think the people running PBS can access if they need to-say someone is harassing someone else or something. But otherwise no.

yes, pbs has access to your pm's.  as a matter of fact they frequently post here telling someone to check their pm from such and such a date.  i recall a recent post where the op questioned what to do about a book she received that she did not order.  the site owners told her to go and read a pm she sent someone from a certain date where she requested the book from someone and just buddied them a credit, hence there was no transaction record in her archive.  http://www.paperbackswap.com/forum/topic.php?t=134986

PBS can also read PMs that you have deleted.  Never assume anything online is completely private is the best rule of thumb.

Cheers,

PBS Powers That Be can read anything, but the rest of the general PBS population can't read anything sent privately between two members.  But every now and then I see someone who does a copy/paste from a PM into a forum post.  Generally they remove names and identifying information pretty quick, but there is always that danger.

The Admin team does have access, but they don't cruise around looking for interesting PMs.  They look at them when it helps solve a problem or clarify a situation.

Or on slow Saturday nights when there is nothing good on TV... ;P

Thank-you for your answers.

I don't mind thinking that there is someone who watches what I say.

It kind of keeps me straight.

From what Lita M. says, I am assuming that there is someone watching 24 hours a day.

They prbbly have a computer set up to alert them to certain events, and then they take care of things as the computers alert them.

I just have this image in my mind of, on occasion, when things get heated, the computers all alarming, spitting out papers, and light flashing everywhere.

Alert in the Discussion Forum! Alert in the Cooking Forum! Alert in the Book Bazaar. PM alert!

And then there is complete meltdown. That is the strange times when you log on and nothing is there.

Just don't say "fish nuggets" in a pm.  It triggers a secret underground network, and all sorts of bad things happen.  I'm warning you, bad things will happen if you go there.
