Excavations at Tepe Guran in Luristan The Bronze Age and Iron Age Periods - Jutland Archaeological Society Publications, 40 Author:Henrik Thrane, Werner Alexanderson, Juliet Clutton-Brock, J. Balslev Jorgensen Luristan in Western Iran was largely inaccessible to foreigners until the early 1960s when a new road linking the Great Khorasan Road with Susiana or Elam was built by the Danish engineering firm, Kampsax, which invited a team of Danish archaeologists to explore the Luristan Bronze culture. This volume concerns the Protohistoric finds from Tepe ... more »Guran. The Neolithic and other Prehistoric material will be published by Peder Mortensen who was in charge of the Neolithic excavations on Tepe Guran and who carried out an extensive survey of the Hulailan valley for the Prehistoric periods. The contemporary sites examined in 1964 will be covered in a later volume. The present volume also sadly describes the exploitation of the Luristan cultural heritage that took place during the past two or three generations. Unscrupulous dealers and their greedy associates have exploited the illiteracy and poverty of the Lurs and left a landscape in ruins. Nevertheless, much was learned from the excavations. This volume presents the settlement and tombs and graves of the centuries around 1000 BC, and includes identifications of animal and human remains, and teeth found there.« less
