If you're expecting a retelling of the cutesy movie with Rosie O'Donell and Dan Akroyd (which I LOVE) - this is NOT the book for you.

Frankly sexual, disturbingly romantic - a very spicy read. The love scenes are...er...unconventional but captivating - if you are easily offended DON'T EVEN THINK about this book! If you are very open-minded and think that anything between two adults is good for them...try this! Think Drama/Erotica/Romance with a bit of recreational Sadomasochism thrown in...the book, unlike the movie, is NOT a lighthearted comedy, I'd call it more a dark psychological romance.

ALSO TRY: Belinda (written by Anne Rice, some older copies will say by Anne Rampling), or the Sleeping Beauty Series...the books are called The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty, Beauty's Punishment, and Beauty's Release), written under the pseudonym Anne Roquelaure. These are considered modern erotic classics, right up there with the Story of O (a good deal more interesting, if you ask around).

A steamy, erotic read by Anne Rice (she writes erotica under the name Anne Rampling). I don't get much into erotica, but I did enjoy this book.

A different twist for Anne Rice, not as erotic as the Sleeping Beauty series, but definitly erotic and full of games and mystery.

WOW! I am amazed with this book. It explores some very touchy sexual issues. BDSM is not as taboo as it used to be, but this book brings it fully to a new awareness. I was pleased with how tastefully, erotic and true to it's subject that it was. Not to mention it shows those who participate in a lifestyle different than the normal can still be normal people who love and live a life much like the rest of the world. I will definitely be keeping this one and will likely read it again. I recommend it highly for the curious.

So I wasn't as impressed with this book as I was hoping. I guess I had the Sleeping Beauty books in my mind and although this was good in its own regard, it didn't quite meet up with my expectations. Frankly, I was expecting an erotica book but I got a love story with some steamy erotic scenes about S&M. Again, I'm not saying it didn't have it's good moments, because it did. It just wasn't what I bargained for. Since it was good in it's own right, I'll give it 4 stars!

Very, very yummy and naughty writings of BDSM by Anne Rice. It gets into the participants heads while they explore their feelings and understanding of power exchange. MUCH, MUCH better and more intense than the campy movie production.

If you enjoy Anne Rice's style of very sensuous, evocative prose, you'll like this erotic novel. It is mild in comparison to her Sleeping Beauty trilogy, with more emphasis on loveâ"it's a romance novel with mostly straight vanilla sex, with a small amount of the BDSM narrative she perfected with Beauty. The references she makes to music and fashion give the story a dated feel. It bears very little resemblance to the 1994 film (definitely in the book's favor).

Explores the forbidden by taking the reader to The Club, a vacation paradise where no aspect of sexual pleasure is taboo. It looks boldly as those who enslave themselves for love and those who love only to be enslaved. For readers of erotica.

I thought it was going to be a lot....well...spicier. It is actually quite a moving love story and is more of a romance novel than erotica. It was very good, but not what I was expecting.

The book is what you think it is Forbidden S&M sex at The Club. It really is not all that shocking if you have read any type of erotica before. It comes down to a love story and not a bad one. The characters are some what believable except they are all rich and have money to burn. There is a part where the male lead goes into this big explanation of how S&M clubs can end world violence. This kind of slows the pace of the book down but some good points are made. I don't buy the overall premise of the argument.

If you are in the mood and feeling a little frisky it is a good read and I would recommend it to those with adventurous tastes.

This book bears little resemblance to the movie of the same title, thankfully, and was a great read.

If you're looking for something cute - like the movie - forget about it. Although much more tame than the Beauty series, this one is erotically dark and twisted, and will easily offend if you are offended by more than basic vanilla sex.

Anne Rice writing as Anne Rampling has written a book about a fictional vacation paradise called "The Club" where no aspect of
sexual pleasure is forbidden.Sexual bondage ; pleasure and pain
found in an earlier book called "The Story of O" is also found in
this book by Rice who formerly wrote about vampires.

This is Anne Rice writing under pseudonym and therby allowing herself a little latitude as to genre and style. It is, shall we say, uptown pornography.
