Two phrases that stick with you throughout this novel are: this is not a love story, and there are no happy endings. These two phrases, which appear in the foreward, are true to life for the main character, Travis.

School is over and Travis goes back to his going nowhere lifestyle. He snorts an excess amount of cocaine with his friends, goes to many parties, hooks up with girls, and dreams about them. Travis leaves on a trip from Hawaii and, when he returns, he seems even more unsettled than before he left. What happened?

The girl Travis fell in love with, Laura, returns to him after breaking up with her boyfriend. Will she give Travis false hope of them getting back together?

Travis soon realizes that his life is not how he wants it. He realizes it is going nowhere. He wants to leave all the drama and bad influences behind him, but can he?

Just when you think something may take a turn for the better, you think of the two phrases in the foreward.

Life does not turn out happily ever after. This book is very true-to-life, which is why I liked it.
