This book will be hard to put down, each page leave you hungry for more. Its one of those type of books which brings up the old saying," Keep your friends close, but your enemies even closer." However in this book Sally may have someone to close for comfort, that is if she can figure out who killed her father and now is out for her!

This book was at a yard sale and I honestly have never read it. The jacket says that it is about a woman who worked for an LA magazine and went home to Connecticut to work at the local newspaper. She is offered a job in NYC to do an expose (hence the title) on the president of a powerful network.

She is running back and forth between two cities and two men, the president of the network that she is doing the expose on and her old boyfriend in Connecticut. But everything collides when she is drawn into a murder investigation, a murder that might be directly linked to her father's death twenty years ago.

It's hard to pin down what I didn't like about this book. Although this is the first in the series, there are numerous references to characters and events from prior books by this author, so I continually felt like I was missing out on something. Some of those characters are major players in this book.

The plot line was good, with plenty of twists and turns, but many of the characters seemed a bit flat and one dimensional. I found myself not particularly caring what happened to Sally, although one of the secondary characters seemed far more interesting than Sally was. I wanted to go through Van Wormer's back list to find the book about that secondary character, rather than finish this book.

Life can change on a dime...
Two years ago, Sally Harrington abandoned the fast pace and adrenaline rush of working for a Los Angeles magazine to return home to Castleford, Connecticut. Now she works for the local paper, chasing leads from Crazy Pete Sabatio, the town's conspiracy theorist, and is on again, off again with her boyfriend from high school.
Then a chance encounter in the woods changes everything...
When Sally rescues a man who believes he's having a heart attack, she stumbles into the world of Corbett Schroeder, corporate raider, and his wife, Verity Rhodes, editor of a high-end tabloid magazine, Expectations. It's a world Sally knows well from her years in L.A.-the intoxicating life of wealth and privilege. And when Verity offers Sally a job writing a piece for Expectations, it's Sally's chance to play in that world again, if only temporarily.
Her assignment is to write an expose on Cassy Cochran, president of the powerful DBS TV network in New York. While running back and forth between New York and Castleford, Sally finds whe's juggling two lifestyles, two jobs, even two men. But her worlds collide when she's drawn into a local murder investigation-a murder that, according to Crazy Pete, is directly linked to Sally's father, who died in an accident when she was a child.
For someone who's always taken risks, Sally finds that her life is completely out of control. Her plum assignment isn't what it seems, one of the men in her life just might have a hidden agenda and her father's accidental death might have in fact been murder.
