4 EGGS, 1C. MILK, 1 TBLSP. SUGAR, 1/2TSP. SALT, 8 SLICES OF DAY-OLD BREAD, 1 TSP SHORTENING. BEAT EGGS, MILK, SUGAR AND SALT TOGETHER, IN SHALLOW DISH, HEAT SHORTENING IN SKILLET  OR ON GRIDDLE. DIP BREAD SLICES, ONE AT A TIME, INTO EGG MIXTURE, FRY ON BOTH SIDES TILL LIGHTLY BROWNED.
