Hi All,

Perhaps this is not the place for this but it has just happened to me for a 2nd Time in Less than a MONTH so I figure members who are offering DEALS may not realize....

IF you OFFER a DEAL and a member responds to it and places an order than for some reason you CANCEL the ORDER REQUEST than that REQUEST goes into PBS FIFO system and the next in line who has the book now gets the order for the 1 BOOK for 1 POINT and if the meber placing the order isn't aware that happened in time to cancel the order they are stuck with it....

I personally always ORDER the book I want the MOST just in case this happens HOWEVER sometimes I get  1 BOOK for 1 CREDIT that I wouldn't have spent a credit it on by itself.....(aka...the older SCI FI's I order for hubby...shhhh don't tell him LOL)

I have now changed my RC to hopefully explain & prevent this again but I realize MANY members don't know that this happens

It was my fault (or I should say last week's storm - Tree landed in Diningroom & I wasn't online for 3 days) but wanted to inform others cuz it happened about 2 or 3 weeks ago to me as well....

Happy Holiday!

Take Care,

Lisa

This will also happen when the person with the deal does not mark them mailed.

After the mail deadline has been reached the PBS system will order from the next member in line.

This happened to me but my luck was good and I was able to cancel it in time, otherwise I would have

had 2 orders coming to me. The deal I first ordered and the 1 book for 1 credit that the system ordered for me.

Happy PBS New Year!

Julian

It also happens if the requestor has RCS and the sender declines for RCS. So if there are RCS you can't meet they should be accepted and the requestor PM'd to cancel.  Anyone with RCS should probably address them before requesting a deal.

On Dec. 7, I  attempted to take advantage of a 7/2 offer.  11 pm tonight, is the deadline for the books to be marked mailed.  I have sent a note requesting that the books be marked mailed.  I don't think they will be mailed. They are not books I would have used 2 points under other circumstances.    Is there any way I can prevent the orders for these books being sent to another swapper.  I can't be online at 11 pm tonight or tomorrow until late afternoon - my son needs to see a specialist out of town.  I'm really annoyed at this situation - not fair to second swapper being given the order plus it's wasting my points.

Katie, I don't know of any way to prevent it, but you might be able to catch it before the second swapper prints the wrapper and if so, you can cacel the order. If you want to cancel the whole deal you could ask the person to cancel it for you as I believe the sender can cancel an order right up until they mark it mailed. Hope it works out for you. Blessings, Peggy

you could also set up a temp RC explaining the situation-ask that next person to accept the book request but not to print the label.  let them know that when you cancel they will not lose their place in line for book orders.  I know if I saw that I would do that to help the person out.

Katie B

The same thing happened to me. I sent a PM asking if they were still planning to mail the books (only because it was a deal and I didn't want it to go to FIFO)

The person marked them mailed that night when clearly they hadn't mailed them yet and I never got the books. Thankfully I got my credit back from PBS eventually

but I'm sure they got to keep the credit since it was assumed to be "lost". (Is that how it works?) The whole thing was so annoying....

I know what you mean.  This has happened to me as well.
I ended up with a book that would have been part of a deal, but had to pay the credit for it.
Another time I was in time to cancel the order.
:-)

I like everyone's ideas on this.  Especially the "founder" of this Topic about making the favorite book the one actually ordered.
One never knows if this might happen when one is away for the day or something.
This is GREAT and has many really good ideas!

Actually, I just had another thought.  One thing I do like to do - but sometimes forget to do - is contact the seller first by PM and say I want to make such-and-such order with the deal and are these books still available.

Then I don't get stuck if they don't follow through.  The only problem with this is I may lose the book or books to someone else.

The books were marked mailed an hour before the deadline - not sure if they are actually in the mail or not but I'm not in a hurry for them.  Thanks for the suggestions.  It seems unfair to cancel the next person they go to for fulfillment.  Person seemed nice - maybe just too much to do with the holidays but it makes you wonder why they offer deals.
