This book was an extremely fun journey, probably the most exciting of its genre I've read in the past year (next to Passage by Connie Willis)! I especially liked it because it took place in our "real" world but added a fairy tale/fantasy effect. It sort of justified my belief regarding the possibility that such creatures could really exist (although it WAS a fictitious novel). The book was very fun and could almost have been classified as a horror novel in my opinion.
The book's downside for me was when the story started to wander about 2/3 of the way through. I also thought the author threw in some characters and side stories that were irrelevant to the overall plot.
Nevertheless, I'm glad I discovered this book. :)

This was a good dark fantasy set in the modern day. I liked the intermixing of Celtic mythical creatures with twentieth century people. I especially liked how the twins Patrick and Sean learn how to cope in the faerie world.

Kind of a creepy fairy tale, when this family moves into an old house with a fairy circle out in the woods behind the house. Well written, not too "Message" driven. I thought it was more fantasy when I bought it, but it's closer to a horror book.

Usually Raymond Feist writes long, detailed series of books. This book may be a one book read but it is engrossing and a bit frightening in the use of the faerie and the world that we live in. I read it twice it was so good and detailed.
Great urban fantasy. Next to _War for the Oaks_ (by Emma Bull) this is probably THE best "faerie tale" I've read. NOT a tale for children!
From the back cover:
" Phil Hastings was a lucky man--he had money, a growing reputation as a screen writer, a happy, loving family with three kids, and he'd just moved into the house of his dreams. Life was wonderful, full of magic and about to be irrevocably altered by a Magic more real than any he dared imagine.
For with the magic came the Bad Thing, and the Faerie and then the Fool...and the resurrection of a primordial war with a forgotten People--a war that only the Hastings, but the whole human race, could lose."

Interesting insertion of traditional folklore into a 1980's mystery tale.
A contemporary story set in rural upstate New York. Phil Hastings has a wonderful life full of magic - but then the Magic came with the Bad Thing, and the Faerie, and then the Fool...

great read
This book is a well written story with a somewhat unique slant on myths and legends.
The characters are well presented and believable and the supernatural elements are interesting and fast paced.
All in all a good read.
