Isabel Wright and Ellis Cutler are Level 5 lucid dreamers. Lucid dreaming occurs when the dreamer has some sense of control and consciousness during the dream. Ellis uses his ability to investigate classified cases for a secretive government agency while Isabel analyzes the Level 5 dreams referred to her by this agency. Of course, Isabel isn't told that the dreams are those of government agents as she works at a sleep research center. Isabel and Ellis have met numerous times on the dream level but haven't met physically until the occurrence of a series of murders, starting with Isabel's employer. However, the romance is not the central focus of the story. Instead, the reader is drawn into the intricate twists and turns of the plot, along with quite a bit of information about lucid dreaming. Isabel and Ellis team up to investigate the murders and discover that another Level 5 dreamer, presumed dead, may actually be involved.
