I have always enjoyed Readers Digest books. This book is thorough without being unwieldy.
From the inside cover.
Family Guide to The Bible is, first and foremost, a concordance keyed for use with the King James Version. One of the essential tools of Bible study, a concordance serves as an alphabetical index to words and names that appear in the scriptures, showing were they occur and in what contexts. To locate a specific phrase or quotation anywhere in the Bible, the reader simply looks up any of the significant words in the phrase. For example, someone wishing to find the famous passage that speaks of turning swords into plowshares can turn to the entry SWORDS, scan the context lines, and find the one that reads, Isa 2, 4 shall beat the s into plowshares, then open your Bible to Book of Isaiah, Chaper 2 Verse 4, to read the complete passage. The same result can be obtained by looking up one of the other keywords in this passage, BEAT or PLOWSHARES. The concordance thus enables a reader to locate a favorite verse, check the exact wording of a passage, learn where a particular person or event is described and trace the recurrence of key phases and ideas through the Old and New Testaments.
Traditionally, Bible concordances have tended to fall into 2 categories: at one extreme, exhaustive concordances that list virtually every occurence of every word; at the other, the modest selections included as appendixes in many editions of the Bible. One of the goals of this volume is to provide readers with an alternative that is comprehensive in scope and depth of coverage- nearly 7000 keywords and more than 160,000 context lines- yet not so unwieldy that it becomes impractical for quick, everyday use. 832 pages. Size; approximately 8.5 x 11

Where is the famous passage that begins,
"and they shall beat their swords into plowshares"?

Who said, "Whither thou goest, I will go"?

Where in the Bible are the Ten Commandments?
The Lord's Prayer?
The Sermon on the Mount?

Who described himself as "a stranger in a strange land"?

The answers to these questions and countless others can be found quickly and easily in Family Guide to the Bible, which puts the vast riches of the King James Version at the fingertips of every reader. First published in 1611, the King James Version has endured for more than three and a half centuries as the most widely read Bible in the English-speaking world.
To make this greatest of all books more accessible and understandable to modern readers, the editors of Reader's Digest have prepared Family Guide to the Bible.
