I guess "not for me" would be the best review for this book. I did not finish it. A friend told me about this series. After reading the summary on the back I was skeptical about reading it, but went ahead and gave it a try. A couple chapters in and I felt like I was reading a kinky teenage novel. The writing is kind of immature/lacking, but the content is pretty adult. I think this series is considered paranormal romance and I guess it's just not my thing.
This ia the first book in the Dark-Hunter series, but is not a story of a Dark-Hunter. The characters in this book do tie into the rest of the series, though. This is about an immortal Spartan warrior who is cursed by his brother to be a book-bound love-slave. There are some very steamy scenes in this book, but there are some funny parts too, like when Grace takes Julian into town the first time. I found myself cheering for the characters toward the end!
I love the softness in Grace's personality, and the rugged torturous aspects of Julian's. The plot is overwhelmingly fun; a sex slave falling in love with a sex therapist! The action in the book isn't as noted as it is in the other Dark-Hunter novels, but there does exist two noted fight scenes, despite the general lack there of.
Recommends it for: Anyone who loves sarcastic dry humor, awesome fight scenes, and sexy characters!
As a way of introducing the DH world, Fantasy Lover is my favorite for this reason. We are introduced to major gods and goddess players, as well as the 'paranormal' aspects of the DH universe. There are several favorite comedic scenes between Grace and Julian that I treasure, one specifically being Grace teaching Julian how to drive. The underlying sexual tension added with the teasing between the two is belly-rolling funny!
The passion and strength of the characters, not to mention the amazing plot, are enough to make me reread both Fantasy Lover, and the DH books as a whole again and again. Already started onto the 8th book!
