Surprisingly good book for lay people about the scientific options for a sustainable national energy policy. Starts out with a discussion on the immediate impacts of the 1970s oil crisis on research and development, adjustment to higher prices, and review of existing and future energy sources. Has pictures and charts from numerous sources to supplement the source text, with topics including fossil fuels - oil/coal/natural gas, nuclear fission/nuclear fision, direct utilization of solar energy, photovoltaics, biomass, geothermal, tidal, batteries/storage technology, conservation, and hydrogen. Recommended for interested audiences that are interested in the technology/science with accessible descriptions of benefits and problems of the various technologies. Was very interesting to see photos of a tidal energy plant, and the diagrams/models of some of the other technologies.
