I have 1400 books but I only have 500 or so listed on my TBR. I wanted to add them all but it seems like I only have the option to add them 1 at a time. Is there any way to add multiple books?

Yes, there is the Book List Import Bookmark at the bottom of the page that allows you to import a page full of ISBNs to your

  • Bookshelf
  • Wish List
  • Reminder List
  • Books I've Read List  (not sure on this, since it is now part of your shelf)
  • TBR Pile
  • I believe the list has to be online, but does not have to be an HTML file. You could PM your list of ISBNs to yourself, then open that page, and it is then importable with the bookmark tool.

Ya gotta make yourself your own buddy! Sounds weird, but it works!

Well, actually, you can just click the PM button here on one of your posts. I buddied myself, because I send PMs to me for reminders all the time!

You can use www.tinyurl to create a very short alias to a long url...

Andrea, which browser are you using? I can't use this feature at all with IE6, don't know about 7. I have no problem with FF, I just checked it, and it still works ok for me.

You may find a TINY flaw with the importing. It's not a problem when I only do a few, but with 900, you may get a liiiiiittle tired of clicking the check box. There's no "check all" feature!!! I forgot that :(

Firefox. Maybe I did it wrong. I was supposed to bookmark the link that PBS gives me. Then when I have the PM with my list open, I click the link I just bookmarked, right?

I clicked the link on the page below to add the link in FF. Then open the PM with FF. Then go to the bookmark in your bookmarks, and it willl open the list up with pics and all.

I just tried this feature myself.  I created a plain .txt file with several isbns in it, opened that file with firefox, then went to the bookmark.  Worked well, but I did immediately send a "suggestion" feedback for a "check all" option.

:( I tried it both ways (PBS PM and opening my text file with the ISBN) and this is what I get:

    "Request-URI Too Large

The requested URL's length exceeds the capacity limit for this server."

I think it was because I have 1400 ISBN numbers. So I shortened it to 10 but it only added the first 3. Yet when I do it manually, it accepts the numbers. I give up.

    Thanks for your help :D

Oh, here's another tip, I forgot, it will not accept ISBNs that end in X

I got an answer on the check all button, they said the next time the programmers are working on that, they will consider whether they can add one. Who knows when that will be, but in between important stuff, I'm sure hahaha

Andrea, I never add more than 50 at a time. Since the list gets all jumbled in order after it brings it up, I want to verify that the books are correct before final import, and if you bring up more than the 50 at a time, you have a harder time double checking them. You are probably right that it is choking on the number of books, and they didn't program in a response that said "Too many books!!!" hahahaha

The other reason for 50 at a time, is to know which ones it doesn't import. I don't think it imports ones that aren't in the database yet either. You know, those that you have to manually enter because the ISBN isn't recognized?

And thanks for checking the text file in FF, Bret! That's handy to know. A lot of people don't know HTML and that is sure easier than PM'ng yourself!

Oh I didn't know that about the 'X' at the end...I'll have to give it another try.

    Thanks again Sherry :D
