Anyone have a favorite GLBT movie?

There are two that make the top of my list.  My favorite gay movie is "Latter Days" about a shallow party boy who falls in love with a Mormon missionary.  My favorite lesbian movie is "Saving Face" about a Chinese woman who falls in love with her boss's daughter while trying to keep it a secret from her mother who was forced to move in with her.

Sorry if this is a repeat post.

Loved 'Saving Face'!  We just watched it the other day & it was really well done.

I think my favorite Lesbian movie is 'If These Walls Could Talk 2'.  It really had a deep impact on me (and I watched it before I feel in love with DP & was still thinking I was 'straight').  The first part of the movie had me in tears because of the injustice that the older woman had to go through.

I'm not sure about a favorite gay movie....I'm going to have to do some thinking on that...

If These  Walls Could Talk (both 1 and 2) were so awesome!  I cried at that same part, too, Mary.

I love "Longtime Companion"  I bawl my head off every time I see it.

"The Adventures of Prisilla, Queen of the Desert". I just love this movie. Terrance Stamp was brilliant - made you laugh and broke your heart.  And what gay man can not like the soundtrack - Gloria Gaynor, ABBA, The Village People........

I also liked "Trick", about two young gay guys who meet and their attempts to have a romantic encounter. SCary as this sounds...Tori Spelling is very good as the quiet student 's (Christian Campbell) best friend. She is quirky and pulls it off quite well.

Would "If These Walls Could Talk" be appropriate for a gay/straight mixed crowd, or with teens?

We just watched "Monster" the other night and it was horribly depressing.  I watched it for Christina Ricci.

I don't know of any great movies but I sure love Torchwood and I can't wait for season two!

My Own Private Idaho was OK.

Oh yeah I forgot about Being John Malkovich.  I have that recorded on my PVR right now!  it was on the other day.  I forgot that the woman was attracted to the woman John Malkovich was into!  I LOVE that movie :)  When I watch it again it will be the 5th time or so.

Hi All,

I haven't been around much, but I do pop in every now and then to check up on everyone.

Gay film would have to be The Adventures of Prisilla, Queen of the Desert.  I love that movie, even though I'm not too fond of Abba.

Lesbian film would have to be Desert Hearts.  I love the movie as much as the book.  It has such an authentic feel to it.  Not to mention that I find the women in it very hot!

I absolutely loved Priscilla, Queen of the Dessert. It was particularly good on the big screen.

Another of my favorites is Gods & Monsters with Ian McKellan and Brendan Fraiser.

Minh, I think If These Walls Could Talk 1 & 2 should be seen by everyone - straight, gay, whatever.  I would let teens watch either, but I tend to be pretty liberal. In brief: 1 deals with abortion - how 3 different women dealt with unwanted pregnancy/abortion issues over the span of decades.  2 deals with lesbian issues - again proifiling 3 different women over the span of about 40 years.

DEBS is my favorite lesbian movie, ever.

It's a cute and simple love story, but the best aspect is that the conflict is not based in the fact that two girls are in love, but that one is a superhero and the other is a supervillain.

I still haven't seen too many. Not easy to find in the movie store sometimes. =/ I LOVE Zerophilia http://imdb.com/title/tt0421090/ Anyone ever get a chance to see it? It is so good. I am interested in some of the ones you listed. I think I will try to find If These Walls Could Talk 1 & 2, they sound good. (=

Favorite GLBT film, huh? Boy, where do I start? Well, I'd have to say that "Rocky Horror Picture Show" is definitely in the number one spot (I'm actually listening to the soundtrack right now) with "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" and "Transamerica" tied for second. Following closely are "But I'm a Cheerleader" and "Another Gay Movie" (which I thought was hilarious, but wasn't all that impressed with Richard Hatch's nude scene).

You know, I don't even have to think about this, and I'm a little surprised that nobody has mentioned it yet.

A play to HBO miniseries, Angels in America (while it went a bit strange towards the end) is just ... beautiful beyond all words, breathtaking, funny, tragic, and basically uplifting. It doesn't have a happy ending, but it has an inspiring ending; I am so tired of Every Gay Movie Must Have a Tragic Ending syndrome. It was a play about AIDS that predated Philadelphia -- which didn't get half the coverage -- and which handled the subject with so much more grace, and it didn't really have a Gay Martyr character (and I almost universally hate Martyr movies of any type). If you need more convincing, the cast of characters included, among others, a flaming black nurse, a Mormon, Al Pacino, and Meryl Streep in drag.

Mm, lesbian movies -- though those have a habit of drifting into tragedy, too... Bound is good (and a little, uh, hot). Fried Green Tomatoes for the subtext. Lost and Delirious for the nicest, most bestest line about same-sex relationships that I've come across in a movie (and Canadian girls school, eh?).

Transgender movies? Transamerica, easy. :)

I absolutely adore Bound, Priscilla: Queen of the Desert, But I'm a Cheerleader, and Better than Chocolate. Surprised no one has mentioned that last one yet. It is funny and sweet and so very rewatchable.

Better than Chocolate... hands down! Sooooo *hot*! Mmmmmm Oh, and a good story line too. ;)

Also, Songcatcher... not technically a dyke flick I guess, b/c the lesbians are *not* the main characters, but their relationship is a part of the main theme.

For fun and laughs - D.E.B.S. and But I'm a Cheerleader.
