I am a practicing psychotherapist and this is the one book I ask all my clients to read. While it may appear long, it is an easy read filled with examples that clearly illustrate Dr. Burns' points. I have to admit that I don't always agree with every example, but despite my minor quibbles, the book is an excellent, understandable explanation of cognitive behavioral techniques that can improve anyone's life by teaching people how to think differently. Based on the work of Dr. Beck and Dr. Albert Ellis, the strategies Dr. Burns recommends are well researched and scientifically validated. My clients have all found the book to be useful and informative, as well as easy to comprehend, but they all agree that there is a great deal of information presented, and it takes time to absorb everything Dr. Burns discusses. Another excellent book along these lines, that is shorter and an equally good read, is "Resilience" by Karen Reivich and Andrew Shatte.
