Can someone tell me of any and all fees that PBS charges?

I read on another site that PBS actually charges you a fee to put money into your account to buy credits? Is this true?

Thanks!

The only fee I know of is one that PBS charges for using delivery confirmation - I can't remember the exact amount of that one.  I don't believe you are charged a fee to add money to your account (someone correct me if I am wrong).  Just remember - the fee services are all optional.  You don't have to pay any fees to be a member of this site.  PBS makes absolutely no money, so if you use any of the fee services you are helping support a site that is not profitable.

ETA:  Okay, I just found some info in the help center.  You are charged a fifty cent transaction fee if you add money to your account through check or money order.  If you use Paypal, you are not charged.  From there, each transaction you use with the money in your account is charge a fifty cent processing fee.

Lisa, you are definitely charged a 50 cent transaction fee when you use PayPal.  That's how I add money to my account and the fee is always there.  Like you said though, using any of the fee services is optional.

And if you use PBS postage or PBS DC, there is a small fee on each purchase above and beyond the cost of postage. For example, if I buy media rate postage for a 1-2 pound item, which I believe is 2.43, the amount PBS charges is 2.84.

I also believe the 50 cent processing fee applies to any purchase made in the kiosk - credits, money, BOB subscriptions, merchandise. It offsets Paypal's cut of every transaction.

Hey sbcmopsmom what's with the tickers? I've seen weight loss tickers like that on www.sparkpeople.com but am wondering where the debt one if from? Is there a debt diet place? Coz I sure could use one!!

Thanks ladies for sharing the info about fees, I realize that none of these sites are actually profitable for the owners but it's my wallet I have to worry about not theirs, so I am just looking for the site that is cheapest to use for me is all, no disrespect meant in any way :o)

No, Lisa, you are not charged fifty cents each time you use money you have in your account. You are charged a fifty cent transaction fee each time you add money to your PBS money account.

I read this in the help center and must have misunderstood it:  There is a $0.50 flat transaction fee for each Kiosk purchase, which applies no matter which payment method is used.  I took that to mean each time you purchase something out of your PBS money account but I realize now I was wrong.  Sorry for the misunderstanding.

As long as you don't use money on this site, it is free, you just have to pay (the post office) for the postage you use to mail the books.  I don't think you will find cheaper!

You are charged a fifty cent transaction fee if you add money to your account through check or money order.  If you use Paypal, you are not charged. This part also needs correcting, any form of funding used is charged the .50 fee, including PayPal.

Tami, I do not use PBS-DC or printable postage so my only cost for this site is to send the books and those goes media mail or FC depending on whatever is cheaper.  you don't have to subscribe to anything or pay for any extras if you don't want to....that is how I can afford this site!

PBS actually charges you a fee to put money into your account to buy credits? Is this true? Yes, but only if you are buying credits from the Kiosk. And you also can't currently buy credits with PBS money,  that's only for postage, all Kiosk transactions need to be paid for by some outside source like CC, PP, or check/money order. There are always other members offering to sell off their extra credits in the Book Bazaar so you can get them without going through the Kiosk and usually get them a little cheaper that way!

Tami - I have been using this site for 2 years next week and I've never paid a fee for anything.  I've sent over 300 books and received over 300 books.   There is no need to ever pay a fee if you choose not too.   I do give credits back to the site now and then as a gift.   I don't use DC because it doesn't make sense moneywise for me.   I've had one of those over 300 books I've sent go lost.  I lost the cost of one credit that time.  If I had put DC on all 300 books it would be a whole lot more money than that one credit.

I am NOT saying no one should use the fee user services here.  They are great for those who want or need to use them!

Keep in mind that the 50 cent cost for putting money in is to cover their costs.  Paypal charges a fee to use them.  Banks charge fees to process electronic debits.  Credit card companies charge fees to process transactions.  It just keeps PBS from paying for you to use their site!

If you just want to send out books to get credits and buy credits, add PBS DC, or PBS postage, or Box of Books, there is no fee.

So for basic swapping--the site is free.

For any extras, then there is cost of the extra & possibly a fee, depending on the extra.
