Inevitably (sp?  no caffeine yet, LOL...) when I get a book that *clearly* does not meet PBS posting guidelines, it's from someone who doesn't have a profile.

I am getting to the point where if I order a book and can't "see" any data on the sender, I will cancel the order.

If you are a good, honest member, make a profile - let me see your trading history!!

I totally agree, L!  However, with the default setting being no numbers shown, hardly anyone's #'s show anymore.  I think most people don't even know that people can't see their books sent and rec'd.

I've gotten a few from long time seasoned members with profiles and lots of transactions under their belt.

But almost every request or WL I've had time out has been from someone who has no public profile. I have one now that's been sitting for over a day w/no response. I'm thinking it's a new member but the profile is not public.  It's a book I posted months ago, but my shelf has been on hold.  It popped up as WL when I took my account off hold to post another WL book.  So whoever added it to WL, added it recently because I've been taking my account off hold every few days, just long enough to post a WL book or mail a swap book "to a friend".  It's going to the thrift store, if they don't accept the WL offer.

My worry is will the newbies give credits back for the damaged books? If they are only here for the free credits for signing up & can get rid of a few of their listed books quickly for more fast credits and then leave, why would they bother giving back a credit for unpostable books?

Edited for the usual typos!

I never thought about changing the setting to let folks see my sent and received stats. I up-dated it to show. Thanks for the head's up on that.

you can get a feel for how long someone has been around by looking at their bookshelf and WL and what the oldest date is on there.  isn't foolproof but should be somewhat close!

It took me a little while to figure out how to change my setting to show my books mailed/received, but now mine are visible! Thanks for the tip!

I didn't realize there was a private/public setting for my mailed/received lists either!

I hope my lists don't reflect badly on me, though!   To be honest, I haven't sent out a great many books, but have received quite a few.   We're both "book-hoarders" and tend to keep everything.   I'll let some books go, but most of the time, I just cannot bear to part with my beloved books!   So, I almost always just buy credits & go that route.   Hopefully, that won't make me look like a "bad" PBS'er to anyone who looks at my lists!

I've looked in my profile settings and can't find how to show my transactions.  Maybe I already am and don't see it?

Yep Jan, I agree.  There is no incentive for returning credits if one doesn't plan to stay...

Nickie, your numbers and profile look fine - I wouldn't hesitate to order from you.  I buy credits too, so my numbers don't match either.

I'm sorry to hear about the negative aspect of not showing a profile.  I am a pretty new member and have always been really apprehensive about making any of my info public on the internet, I guess I'm afraid of identity theft or something like that.  I do plan to be around for a while and am really enjoying my experience on PBS so far.  I consider myself a responsible trader.  I have sent out about 12-15 book so far, all have arrived except the one still on its way to Alaska, and I haven't recieved any negative feedback from anyone.  IAnyways to get to my point... I don't want others to not trade with me or order from me because I don't have a profile.  Is there a way to make my profile public without making any personal information avaliable?

Melissa, it looks like you have some info up there including your stats and if that is all your are comfortable showing that is fine.

It is hard when someone doesn't have any sort of profile.  I think the "last here" info should default to whatever and not be allowed to be hidden.

I have a profile, but I think my trading stats are hidden.    I don't remember what I landed on.

Too many complaints about either "Credit hoarders" or "Non-contributors" depending on if more sends or receives are listed.  I didn't feel like messing with it.      And they aren't accurate anyway, since I often send out boxes of books via buddied credits rather than direct orders.

I'd be happy to send out more books.  Apparently, no one wants them.  :-D
