My friend John just told me that the movie/mini series will be showing on Starz cable network July 23rd.† No matter how you felt about the book, the cast looks very good.† http://www.the-pillars-of-the-earth.tv/†††† I didn't realize that Ridley Scott was behind this as well.

I want to see it! I read the book when it was first released in paperback and enjoyed it. I realize it's a bit overdone and there is plenty of stuff that isn't true, but I don't always care about that; I mainly read fiction for a good story.

Jeanne, it will be released on DVD after it shows on Starz, just like they have done with the Tudors, Rome and other "series" on the movie channels.† John said he and Meg are getting Starz just for this reason cause he has Dish Network.†

I liked this too, †not so much World w/o End though.†

Thanks for the heads up.† I might just have to add Starz to my dish account as well.† I loved the book even though it wasn't 100% accurate.

Thanks Letty! My DH wouldn't spend the money on STARZ for just one program, so I'll just have to sneak out and get it on DVD when it's released! (BTW, whenever that is, if you know of it, please pass that info on to me? - Thanks much!)

I would love to see it!!† Considering that Ridley Scott has something to do with it, I hope the set design and outdoor shots are on par with what I found in Robin Hood - or is that too much to hope for, you think?†

Jeanne, I watch the Tudors on my computer through the Showtime web site, full episodes they blur the nudity to make it PG13.† I am not certain if Starz does this but HBO does as well so you might be able to watch it that way.† The day after it airs,

Haven't read the book, but I'll definitely add it to the Netflix when the DVD comes out. I'm patient. :-) I wanted to see the remake of The Prisoner, but I wasn't going to pay more just to get AMC for it. Just got the first dvd this weekend and I didn't think it was bad (like what a bunch of original version/Patrick McGoohan diehards keep screaming). In fact, I loved it and I love the original one too. Even if it's confusing and may eventually be incomprehensible, at least it's finite (6 episodes), unlike Lost which was 5 seasons of WTF.

I was watching Starz last night and saw the promos come on.† Any way to rope me into watching something = put Donald Sutherland in there.† Pillars of the Earth is on my bookshelf, but its size has always been so daunting to me (getting myself to read Aztec was a challenge in itself!)† I'll read it eventually...

Oh, Karla -- I so agree with you about Lost. I was never so glad to see a series end and still can't believe the number of hours I spent watching every episode of that d*** show.

Lost. Oh, how I hate that show and love it just as much. I still haven't watched the very last episode. I had a thing to go to that night and I haven't made time to watch it yet.

My thoughts too!† I really had a love/hate relationship with that show.

I gave up on Lost after two episodes into Season 3 and then I hear that the smoke monster was never addressed in the finale. That was the only thing I wanted to know about! LOL

But while I was an avid watcher, I didn't get all the Jack haters, thought Kate/Sawyer was blah, shipped Claire/Locke (yeah, I did), and spent too much time puzzling over everything. So when I gave up watching it, I got a bit of my life back!

And now I've finally clicked the Pillars link and am DEFINITELY getting it through Netflix. Ian McShane and Rufus Sewell?? HELLO! heart

I watched the first episode it was quite good. My kids liked it a lot too. I thought the book was painfully too long and dull, but they have turned it into a very good miniseries. Looking forward to the next episode.

The mister and I watched the first episode last week and really enjoyed it (we haven't read the book - and probably won't) - enough to order Starz in order to watch the rest.† Comcast in our area is running a special of $10 a month for six months.

I've watched the first 2 episodes, so far so good have to wait until next week for episode 3,† I think it's been a good adaptation for what I have seen of it.

I don't get Starz but I watched the first two free preview episodes.† I haven't read the book, so this is purely based on the†TV episodes. †It was ok, but didn't really grab me.†It feels ... sketched in, I guess.† When it's out on DVD, I might rent the rest.

My biggest gripe so far is†Follet's theory that†the Chuch/Bishop†was behind the sinking of the†White†Ship.† I mean, good grief, there's enough†legitimate criticism of†the church and its leaders without†inventing the†cold-blooded murder of 300 people, including the crown prince and half the†upper†nobility in his age group.†††
