I just finished this book it is a story about a young girl with schizophrenia. I read it just because I wanted a credit and wasn't looking forward to it...I have had it maybe 2 years..AWESOME read. What a great account of a person struggling with mental illness and how it affects them internally and externally....I found it to be funny and times and tragic. Very real.

Carlson writes for so many age groups I was surprised how much she developed the main character. You really get a glimmer of what it's like to deal with mental illness. Excellent book.

An excellent read! Alice is slowly slipping into schizophrenia and her life has some strong parallels to Alice in Wonderland which fuels her delusions. I both laughed and cried while reading this. Some of the writing was so vivid and real I found myself thinking I was right there struggling alongside Alice. A *must* read!

You either will really like this book or not as it takes you into the mind of a menally ill young person. Her feelings & experiences are completely real as to what many menally ill persons experience & reading this book will give you a good understanding of the mental workings of the mentally ill. I found it very illuminating & encouraging but some readers might find it more than they can cope with. It certainly made me reconsider my responses to those I have encountered with mental illness & gave me an understanding of their behavior. Judgement was replaced with compassion for me through this book.

Certainly a good book with some really deep characters that you cling to. The story did not seem that original and it reminded me greatly of Elizabeth Flock's Inside I'm Screaming, but nonetheless it is what appears to be an honest look at psychiatric illness and what happens when someone thinks that are "doing what is best."
