I have a pile of  Pine Cone Press scrapbooking how to books (retailed originally for $11.99 each) that do not have an ISBN on either the back cover or the fly page- however I did find 2 of the same books on the PBS systen that had ISBN's listed for them.

Is there some source somewhere for looking missing ISBN's up?

Thanks.

Meg

Could it be somewhere either on the spine or one of the first few pages (the "front matter", where they usually put publication date, etc.)?

Megan--

If there is no ISBN anywhere on the book, you cannot "borrow" an ISBN from Amazon or another source -- you'll need to post it as a non-ISBN item.

The best places to find an ISBN on the book are above the bar code, on the spine (for some paperbacks) and on the back of the title page.

Respectfully, Purvi's answer is incorrect -- the ISBN must also match and be on the book to avoid a RWAP. :-)

Cheers,
Catt

Totally unfamiliar with your books Meghan, but pamphlets are unpostable.  Doubt that discribes your books, but JIC :-)

I'm not certain, but they may be unpostable.  I took a look around, and according to Amazon, the Pinecone scrapbooking books that I found did not have an ISBN and were 36pp.

Pamphlets/Booklets/leaflets without ISBNs: NO

  • These sometimes contain advertising; members also complain at having to pay a credit for these.
  • Leaflets = non-children's books with less than 20 pages
  • Booklets = non-children's books with less than 50 pages
  • Leaflet/pamphlets/booklets with ISBNs may be posted
    • if so, the number of pages must be included in the item description.
  • Children's books do not count as booklets or leaflets, even if they are short.
    • Children's books can be expected to have short pagelengths and the booklet/leaflet designations do not apply.
