Hmmmm.... This story is very intense, very dark, and way too many unneeded sex scenes that are a bit too graphic for my tastes. In fact, while the story of Lissa's real purpose in life and Cassimir's integration (or the nterference - depending on which camp you take) was very interesting, the graphic sex scene interruprions detract from the flow. I have no problems with her reluctance to accept the betrayal. But there were too many interruptions.

Well at least we know Blythe remembered something that actually happened. Although Viktor's ability to make her forget or bury it deep is a bit over the top. If the Prakenskii brothers are the male counterparts of the Drake sisters, then these must be the darker versions, as I don't recall any of the sisters with the power to erase memories.

Anyway. The writing actually shows evidence of an editor wielding a red pen, as there are fewer unnecessary scenes. Or at least I didn't drop out of the storyline in annoyance due to archaic and/or awkward sentences. The planning, setup and execution scenes were well written. The non-romantic dialogues worked. The bad guys are unredemptively evil. I did skip over most of the sex scenes because they were boringly graphic and contributed nothing to the experience. The 6 pages consumed for each could have been reduced to a single paragraph.

Well at least this book slathers on the connection to the Drake sisters conclusion. But we may have to wait a bit for the last one, as Viktor has to work his way up the ranks and get closer to the ultimate bad guy (who is NOT a vampire). That is a very deep and long undercover assignment!
