An outstanding book, told in the firemen's own words, that reminds one just how much we owe these men and women who choose a career in firefighting. The focus is primarily on city fire fighters, but some of writings are from wildfire fighters, too. It gives a solid glimpse into their lives on all sorts of levels, such as how their families cope, the camaraderie that comes from living shoulder-to-shoulder, the practical jokes in the firehouse, and so much more. Written in 96, there's nothing about 9/11, but there are some pieces that deal with the firefighters who responded to the OK. City bombing and how it affected them. Well worth reading.
