Poignant, sometimes aggravating, always enthralling.

I read this book because my sister and her family lived on the other side of Storm King Mountain. After the fire my nephew decided to go into forest fire fighting because he idolized those people who put their lives on the line, while the bureaucrats were doing their petty in-fighting and game playing. I got so angry reading this account that at times I had to put it down for several days before continuing. This is an excellent book and should be read by everyone. It's not pretty, but it is important.

I found this book quite interesting and it makes you wonder what those last few minutes were like for these folks. Not a fun way to go. MaClean has a very easy writing style to read. I enjoyed it.
