For a first outing, this author kept me reading about a frontiersman who travels into the ohio valley to find his brother. When he gets there, strange attacks happen to him and all the settlers. I enjoyed his writing style and the research concerning the language use at the time, how they lived and such helped make the story more realistic. If the gay love story doesnt put you off, its an enjoyable read. Lots to consider in this story about our relationships with everyone.

An unusual setting, a satisfying mystery with a supernatural twist, and a convincing relationship make this a great read. Satisfying on all levels.
