Subject: "First class parcel" rates?

For quite awhile it has been less expensive to ship books that weigh less than 7 oz. (sometimes 6 oz.) at the "first class parcel" rate.  I think the 6 oz rate was $2.39 and it went down at 17c per oz.  So I sent out a lot of books at $2.05, $2.22, or $2.39  instead of the $2.41 for media up to one pound.  Does this category still exist???  What are the rates, if so. Some really savvy postal worker needs to answer this, or research it for me and for all. I have now sent out >7000 books, and a few cents less on a lot of them really mounts up!!

Let meknow if anybody REALLY KNOWS this.  Thanks.  Winston

Maybe someone can direct me to an actual table of rates by the oz. total weight.  I hadno luck finding it on the PO website.  This rate isn't the same as the "first class flats," is it?

PBS has already done the work for you. Go to the Help Center menu and select Browse Help Docs. Then search for the doc titled "New Postal Rates effective Jan 22, 2012". You can get the prices by the ounce there.

Basically, if you buy postage at the Post Office, you should use First Class for any package under 6 oz. If you buy postage online, use First Class for any package under 7 oz. Otherwise, use Media Mail.

Also, if you want to see it at the USPS website, it's here: https://www.usps.com/new-prices.htm

The list you want is First Class Mail Retail.

I got it!  Thanks, everyone.  I usually use stamps on my packages, buying a lot of them from Ebay at < face value, so I have to know the exact amoutnts needed.
