I read this book wishing for a sequel! Such a romantic story!
From back cover:
Wealthy Vance Banning needed a rest from the rat race and from gold-digging women, so he settled in a rural retreat and said he was an out of work carpenter. Vance was certain that would stop his beautiful neighbor from getting too friendly! But he had no idea how persistent Shane Abbott could be when it came to giving a helping hand- or a loving heart!
Great Gift hardback. Follows the hardback/cover style of 'The Gift' and 'Gabriel's Angel'
Another great quick read from Nora Roberts!
New York Times" bestselling author Nora Roberts offers a holiday romance about a wealthy businessman who retreats to a rural area to get away from women. However, his gracious, persistent--and beautiful--neighbor has something he just cannot ignore. Together, they discover that love is the greatest Christmas gift of all.
wonderful Christmas read, true romance.
Two great stories of people trying to resist love but only falling deeper. While these two stories are simpler then other Nora Roberts books they still have a great story line that hooks you in.
fast read and great story..
Another good book from Nora
There are actually two stories in this book. The second story is Blithe Images. They are both romantic and interesting.
Escaping the traps of gold-digging women, wealthy businessman Vance Banning moves to rural Maryland. All he wants is peace, quiet and to keep away from women. The last thing he needs is his sassy, sexy neighbor Shane Abbott. But he has no idea how determined Shane will be when it comes to giving a helping hand-or a loving heart.
When small-town girl Hilary Baxter is offered a prestigious six-month modeling contract by Bret Bardoff, handsome charming and the owner and publisher of fashionable Mode Magazine, the sky is the limit. This is a wonderful book.

I have always in enjoyed reading Nora Roberts. I had a hard time putting this book down once I started reading it. In fact I stayed up late to finish the book.

He needed to simplify his life and mend his broken heart. She was searching for a place to finally fit in and a man who could love her for who she was. Together they discover that all they relaly needed was each other, and that love is the greatest Christmas gift of all.
a romantic romance novel of two neighbors-"steamy"
such a great book i couldn't put it down..
Nora Roberts does it again!
This book was first issued in 1984. Good story though!
Typical of the early Silhouette romances that got Nora Roberts where she is today.
She always has likable characters that feel like family or close friends.
Easy, quick read
escaping the rat race and the lure of gold digging women wealthy businessman vance banning moves to a small rural retreat telling the townsfolk that he's an out of work carpenter all he wants is peace and quiet and to keep away from women so the last thing he needs is a charitable neighbor especially a beauriful gracioius and persistent neighbor of the female persuasion but there's something about shane abbott he just can't ignore vance is certain his cover story will stop his lovely neighbor from getiting too friendly but shane is determinded to break down his resistance vance has been burned once so only a fool would fass for the same innocent act twice and he's no fool but he has no idea how relentless shane abbott can be when it comes to giving a helping hand or a loving heart
It just goes to show you that first impressions are not always best, at least in this book.
This book is a current reprint of a 1984 release. I wish when they did these reprints that an editor would give the book a quick read for references so far out of date that it is jarring to the story. In this case it is reference to an hourly wage being offered - $5/hr. In today's times that is downright offensive. A few chapters after I read that, I went and checked the copyright so I realized that amount was when minimum wage was $3.35/hr (yes I looked it up). It would have been such an easy thing to fix but it just distracted me from the story. Perhaps that was bound to happen, it wasn't the most engaging story I've ever read. Cute way to kill time but not a keeper.
This is a great Christmas read and the first book I have read by this author. It is two stories in one so It was like getting a present and I enjoyed it very much.
