I have been a member for over one year.  I sent out an audio book requested by a member of PBS on December 30.  I received the e-mail from PBS today that it has been declared lost.  I did not use delivery confirmation, so I lost a book worth two credits.  Bummer!  I know there is still a chance it will show up.  I hope it does.  It was sent in a box, not an envelope, and plenty of clear packing tape.  It was only going from KS to NV... I wonder where it is?

It's always frustrating when a book goes lost.  Sometimes they do show up later though.  I had one I mailed out go lost and it was finally received 6 months later.  I'd really love to know where it had been all that time!

I had my very first book go lost (mailed on 12-29) last week. I use DC#'s but not the PBS ones (stamps.com). It never showed up as being scanned anywhere, just had the initial information that usps had rec'd notification that it was being mailed. Went into my local PO very upset as I also had a book mailed on 1-7 that wasn't showing anything either. They rudely said there was nothing they could really do about it, but low and behold 2 days later they both showed up leaving my Chicagoland media mail center (located 25 miles from my house). MAKES YOU WONDER!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I hear you.  I've only had one mailing go lost- of course this one was a pkg. where they'd ordered 2 WL books!  I admit to having the tiniest bit of suspicions about the fact that it never turned up, but in the end I think you've got to give people the benefit of the doubt based on the experiences some people have had here with things going lost.

But I ate two credits on that one myself so I feel your pain!

Good news!  The member marked my book received!  When my book went lost, I checked my transaction archive, and clicked on the member's name to check...their bookshelf was on hold, and of course my lost book had been added back to their wish list.  The member PM'd me an apology for taking so long to mark it rec'd.  The member was out of town and the book got there before they got back.

Good luck to you, Mary and Sara, I hope you get your credits, soon!

Keep : )

ETA:  I just started using PBS DC in 2009.  I rec'd a book from a member in January who used DC, and it was fun to watch the "mail truck" on the map" until it got here.  So, thought I would give it a try, and it is so cool to get the "quick credit", even though I don't need them.

I know someone who used to work at the P.O. He quit because of the junk going on there. The P.O reserves the right to open any media mail to confirm it is actually such, a book or whatnot. At least the guys at his P.O would open a few, and if it was ones they wanted to read, they would take a week or so before sliding it back in the orignal packaging and finishing the mailing. My friend said he never saw them open any other kinds of mail, but it was enough to freak him out and he reported them. The police said it was actually a somewhat "common" problem in their area (TX).... HMM. All of this was well over two years ago, but still... It's always made me nervious with the P.O at all!!!

I'd fill out the report. I had something similar happen to me in the end of 2007. I sent two books. One was requested here on PBS and the other one on Titletader. Both books were shipped the same day and I purchased the postage from the P. O. directly. So they were scanned once. After that they weren't.

After about 6-8 weeks I filed the form and it took another two weeks until USPS found the books. They both were scanned then and one of the books finally arrived. The other one was a bit difficult. The member meanwhile had moved to another state and the last message I got was exactly that. I was surprised that the book finally came back to me after almost 4 months. I reposted it to the same member. She was still on no. 1 on the wishlist.
