I had someone contact me regarding an unpostable I was offering (wavy pages).  Wanted some other books and asked if I would do a 2-1 deal.  I said yes - she ordered 3 books and got 3 freebies.  They were packed in a plastic bag in a box  and stuffed with other bags to take up excess space.

I just got a PM from her saying that all the books were unpostables - with split spines and broken in half!!  I know for a fact that none of those books were in the least bit questionable (I would never post something I thought was in the least bit questionable) - in fact a couple of them were ones I had bought new and read once.  So I know there was little to no creasing of the spine.  And if they were in the condition she claims, there is no way I would have posted them.

So now she wants her 3 credits back - if I had been in the wrong, no problem.   The way they were packed, I can't even imagine how they would have been damaged in transit.  What recourse does the sender have when there is a dispute like this - do I get a black mark because I'm not sending credits back for books I know were in good condition just because she is claiming they are unpostable??

Has anyone else had a problem like this and if so, how did you handle this?  In the 4 months I've been on here, this is the first time I've had this happen and I am so mad I could spit!!

Sorry this is so long and letting me vent.

Tina

That would be me Tina is accusing of lying. I am a regular poster on this forums. Most people know who I am here and I don't think I have a reputation for lying. In fact, my reputation is probably more for "not" complaining since I mostly come on here and talk about how rarely I get unpostable books.

All 6 of your books were unpostable. And the one with "wavy" pages? More like drenched in water and set out to dry. Two of them, binding hanging by a thread. Yes, you are in the wrong. The books are not postable.

There is "NOTHING" to handle here Tina. I told you not to return the credits. Don't worry about it.

Edited to add the links. I can supply more if necessary. As far as I'm concerned I'm being generous for not arguing for my credits back.

And this??? I don't think so. All 6 books were stuffed in a manilla envelope. Pictures above.

Tina, if I knew for sure that the books were in perfect condition when I sent them I would not return the credit.  I would tell her which books were the freebie unpostables but that X, X, and X (the books for credit) were bought brand new by me and read only once.  That there were no spine creases or falling out pages when they were sent and that I will not return the credit(s).

Even if the books were damaged in transit, it sounds like you packaged them as well as you could.  Damaged by USPS isn't your fault as long as they were packaged properly.

First, calm down.  Don't write anything back to her in anger.  Don't accuse her of lying, treat it like she's made a mistake and she certainly couldn't be describing books that you sent.  Ask for pictures of the damage so you can see what she's describing.  If she's saying damaged by the PO, then ask for pictures of the box because you want to see the damage so you can package better next time.

I know anything I receive damage, first thing I do is take pictures to show the sender.  No disputing that.

Excuse me Sarah? I will be most happy to take pictures of the books and the BOX (a manilla envelope) she sent them in. They were not in a box. They were not damaged in transit.

Sarah, you edited your post to take out the part about my taking pictures. How come?

Tina and Susan--

Please save your personal dispute for private messages.  I know you are both frustrated, but it doesn't belong on a public forum and could potentially threaten your membership standings by violating forum protocols.

Regards,

Elizabeth

So, which one of us is not supposed to be posting here Elizabeth? Her? For "venting" like everyone seems to do here. Or me, for sticking up for myself? I don't think you can ask someone not to do that, can you? Is it only when someone comes here to stick up for themself that it becomes an action that can' "threaten your membership standing."

I didn't bring it here first. There is nothing for her to "handle" since I told her to forget about it. Now I"m done with this.

Asking questions about an anonymous transaction and how to handle it is what the "Questions about PBS" category is for.

Pointing fingers and naming names at a specific member for a transaction is against the forum policies.  Like it says at the top of the page: " Club rule - Please, if you cannot be courteous and respectful, do not post in this forum."  Nobody needed to "stick up" for themselves because the original query kept the other party anonymous.

Again, please let it go and take it to private messages.

Regards,

Elizabeth

I think that Elizabeth was only pointing out that these posts are starting to get very personal, and private information is displayed in the packaging photo and that's where this thread starts to violate forum protocols.

The best way to handle this is private PMs, and the PMs with a link to see the photos would be your backup, Susan, if your transaction history was ever called into question by the team.  They clearly tell the other side of the story, which is why you posted here.  But since you were not named or identified in any way by the OP, your response should not really have been posted here with such details.  (If you sincerely wanted to respond to the OP without revealing details, you could have responded with a reply that was more general, and just mentioned that you have photo evidence you will be sending to her, without posting it here.)  I understand that you were quite likely responding in anger to the OPs accusation that you were not telling the truth.  Perhaps the OP was thinking of another transaction she'd boxed up and mixed the two up in her mind.  However, she did not identify anyone, and you should not have done that here.

Susan,

Two things:

First, I can see your address in one of the photos, so you may want to take that photo out, just a friendly heads up.  :)

Second, take it from me, defending yourself here, not an option.  I've tried, a few times, when someone out and out lied about me.  I even linked to my thread they were lying about so folks could read for themselves, and it was I who got my hand slapped by tptb.  It makes no sense to me, but that seems to be the way.  I'm terribly sorry.  I know your reputation here and would order books from you anytime.

I was not placing blame anywhere, I was responding to the first post.  By the time I posted, your posts were there Susan.  The only info I had to go on was what the first post in the thread says.  I try to make no judgement if the OP was lying or if the receiver was lying.  All I had was one side of the story and posted some (what I thought) were helpful hints to try to resolve a problem.

Once I posted and saw what you had said, I did make a minor edit to my post to take out a single sentence that, in hindsight, I felt was unfair of me to say since it did sound like I was making a judgement.  I shouldn't have said that and I did not want to leave that sentence there.

I would offer you some of  the same advice.  Take a breath, calm down, and don't post or PM in anger.

Ditto, Susan:)  After my car wreck 3 weeks ago, I've decided it's all relative.  Have a hot bubble bath & a margarita, and then let me know if you need a squeeing member testimonial for tptb:P  I am at your disposal, my dear.  *BIG hugs*

Those books pictured were definitely unpostable. Anytime you can see the spine between pages.....And I have to say I would not hesitate to order from Susan either.  (and I would definitely black out the addresses on the package pic)

The books shown are definitely unpostable. No question about it.

She deleted the envelope picture. I agree that those books were unpostable.  I also think that at this point it should be handled in PMs.

She deleted the envelope picture.

I did. I figured I'd better. I have no idea how to blacken out my address. Her addy wasn't visible, just her first name but my full address was visible.

At this point it probably should go to PMs, but I have no qualms with someone coming into the forums to defend themselves and I have to admit I was kind of put off by TGs overstepping their bounds and acting as forum police.  I know it has been a while since I was a TG, but I don't think the job has changed so much as to entail forum monitoring.  If I remember correctly, TG role is to answer questions and provide guidance, not chastise.  Has that changed?

Your anger is justified.  But I am confused b/c weren't three of the books acknowledged as unpostable to begin with?  So if the spines are broken, and the pages wavey, and those books unpostable, that would be OK if they are free, right?  Are ALL  6 of them like that then?     D.

Gardngal - only one was supposed to be unpostable and that was advertised as a new book that came from the bookstore with wavy pages, if I remember correctly. As you can see by the link  I have provided it was clearly drenched in water and then dried. The pages are sort of in clumps. It was not simply wavy pages, which are characterized by uniformity.

When I responded to her "ad" in the Book Bazaar for that one unpostable book I also saw several ON HER SHELF I was interested in. I asked her if she ever did 2/1 deals. The other five books came from her shelf and should have been in postable condition.

As my original post said, all 6 books were unpostable and only one of them should have been and even that one, she did not portray correctly. Interestingly enough, the three that are in the worst shape, are the three that I actually ordered from her shelf.

This will be my last post on the matter. Let's just let it go .... but before I do, thank you T. those are my thoughts exactly! I really didn't appreciate being told I was jeopardizing my membership when I've seen much worse on these forums and I did nothing wrong except to defend myself.

Definitely unpostable books in those pictures.  I think you're being generous in not asking for your credits back.

Susan, you did nothing wrong.  Accusations were brought against you in the public forum; therefore, you should be allowed to respond in the public forum.  The OP chose the venue, not you.

I hope she returns the credits you are clearly due.

ON HER SHELF I was interested in. I asked her if she ever did 2/1 deals. The other five books came from her shelf and should have been in postable condition.

Exactly.  I've received several unpostable books in deals that were not identified as such and were sitting on the member's shelf and therefore should have been in postable condition.  However because they were the freebies in the deals, I didn't complain.  Probably should have though.
