I guess they know it will take a while to get there.

Yes, odds are they know. PBS also allows extra days before it goes lost. Having said that, often the books do not arrive until after the lost date. When sending books overseas I usually use PBS postage so that I get the credit immediately without having the wait a month, and the receiving member is able to track their books progress.

I use paypal. I can send the tracking in a message. I'm too cheap to spend money on a label.

Yes, residents of Hawaii (Alaska & PR) are generally aware of mail times.  Sometimes USPS will surprise you tho and deliver really quick.  Last time I mailed to Hawaii, I PM'd the requester when it got close to the lost date to let her know I had mailed on time and the book was enroute.  She responded with a polite thank you and was aware of the mail times and not concerned yet.  Book arrived not too long after that and all ended well.

I have family in Hawaii and have mailed there for...a couple decades.  Sometimes take awhile, but don't recall loosing any.  A few arrived very damaged, but it's been a long time since that's happened (over 10 years).

Yeah, Guam-bound media mail and packages come by barge.  One winter a late storm came through that swamped the mail barge and all my birthday packages arrived soaking wet....fortunately packages were insured. (lived there JAN 92-June 94)

Sending to Hawaii or APO's, or any other far away location, can take the book longer to get to the destination.  I've been using the PBS printable postage, so that when the book gets scanned into the USPS system, usually within 24 hours, I get an instant credit.  For me it's a no stress way to send a book out.

I had a book coming from Puerto Rico.  I was surprised to get it by media mail in something like 3 - 4 days and that included a weekend.  I think they must've had room in the truck/plane for packages going other than by priority or first class.

That's pretty fast, 14 days, for delivery to Hawaii.
