Once again, Jayne Ann Krentz brings wit and intelligence to her distinctive, sure-fire recipe for contemporary romantic suspense. Self-made venture capitalist Jasper Sloan is restless for new opportunities when a client's death leaves him with a controlling interest in Glow, Inc. The other 49 percent is owned by sleek, sexy Olivia Chantry, whose sharp mind and shapely body immediately attract Jasper's interest. Before the combative new partners can agree on how to run Glow, they're beset by a more disturbing problem--a blackmailer with access to deeply buried secrets and few qualms about using violence to get what he wants. Olivia's colorful family members, a nosy news hound, and various society types add touches of humor while the protagonists' self-confident, straightforward approach to romance is refreshingly free of angst. As always, Krentz pairs two equally strong people, endowing them with just enough quirks to make them real, and provides plenty of plot twists to keep her story humming. Flash is romantic suspense of a high order. --Ellen Edwards --

Bestselling author Krentz (Sharp Edges) once again displays her expertise in contemporary romance thrillers. As in most of her fiction, an attractive hero and heroine are set up as antagonists, then fall in love. Here she pits Jasper Sloan, successful venture capitalist-turned-CEO of GLOW Inc., against Olivia Chantry, who possesses 49% of the stock and is the niece of the company's recently deceased owner. Both powerhouses in their own right, the two expect to dislike each other, but, not surprisingly, the attraction between them leads to steamy encounters. Romance takes a back seat when a mysterious intruder threatens blackmail, and Jasper and Olivia join forces to prevent their respective family secrets from being exposed. Krentz provides the requisite inside look at the glamorous life. Olivia's special events company, Light Fantastic, provides "flash" for product launches, political fund-raisers and corporate happenings, replete with over-the-top interior designs, sumptuous catering and state-of-the-art technology. Though Krentz's hometown of Seattle, Wash., is the setting, there is little local background; the action might as well take place in any major city where financial wizards and corporate executives hobnob with politicians, nosy journalists and gossipy columnists. Yet Krentz delivers on her tried and true formula: charismatic though uncomplicated main characters, a compelling plot with equal parts romance and suspense, and a surprise denouement that neatly ties up all the loose ends.

"Sparkling with Jayne Ann Krentz's irresistible blend of sassy wit and sheer suspense, this sizzling bestseller explodes into passionate pyrotechnics as a self-made millionaire and a charminglly disorganized entrepreneur team up to corner a killer. Soon they find their unruly partnership has the power to set the night on fire --- FLASH!" Olivia Chantry owns Light Fantastic and inherits part of her uncle's high-tech lighting firm "GLOW," while 51% goes to Jasper Sloan. Enter a blackmailer/murderer, and the fireworks that have already begun between the two of them reach sky high as he tries to protect her --- well, you know the general outline. PUBLISHERS WEEKLY REVIEW

Olivia Chantry is known for her business acumen. She seems the perfect person to inherit Glow, Inc., her late uncle's high-tech lighting firm. But Olivia has inherited only 49 percent of the business. The other 51 percent has been given to Jasper Sloan, a venture capitalist who has his own ideas about running the company. As Jasper and Olivia circle each other, trying to figure out how to work together, they discover there is a blackmailer inside the new company. Trying to uncover the identity of the blackmailer could be deadly.

This is one of author's older books. It seemed to follow her usual formula of heroine with wacky family goes up against straight-laced hero. They both want the same thing and must work together, even when someone from the outside is trying to stop them. The story was entertaining. My rating: 4 Stars.
