Once again, Molly is embroiled in solving a crime. This time she has actually been asked by her on again, off again engaged (not to her!)boyfriend, Captain Sullivan of the NYC police, to investigate the claims of 2 female spiritualists who are all the rage in society.
It takes Molly to upstate NY, to the estate of a political candidate whose baby son was kidnapped and killed several years ago.
Whether you are a fan of the series or this is your first encounter with Molly Murphy, you will enjoy the skillful blending of history and fiction set in turn of the century NY.

I happened across this book and it was great. I think this one may be the second one in the series. A young Irish immigrant woman decides she wants to be a detective in early 1900s New York City (era of the gangs of New York like the Hudson Dusters, etc.) She has an on-again, off-again romance with a NYC Police sargeant who sends her on an assignment that he thinks will keep her out of trouble. Instead she runs into some serious business that she has to unravel. She bravely handles it all. A great book!
