The book delves into the life of the police officers in New York city or any major city for that matter. As their intent is to catch the people that break the law and keep the general population safe, it sometimes means braking the rules and participating in nefarious activities. Once that begins to happen it is easy to get further and further on the wrong side of the law. It also shows that dealing with drug dealers, racial issues, thieves, and internal politics without any support from management makes the job an impossible task. It makes one realize that this is really happening in our real world not just in the book. Lots of colorful language.
