Stupid, I know! I could have sworn I did, but apparently not because I received the cancellation notice yesterday morning. I sent the requester a message as per the instructions, but she has not responded. I'm guessing there is nothing I can do about it now? Any advice or should I just forget about it? |

Well not everyone logs onto PBS everyday. Some people only have computer access at work or at the library. Hopefully she can cancel the 2nd order before it's printed. If there was another copy of the book available then the system would have ordered it for her when you let yours time out because it assumes it wasn't mailed. If she can't cancel the other request then she doesn't have to mark yours as received. So you basically have to wait and just cross your fingers that there aren't other copies available or that the next person doesn't accept it and print it quickly. Once a label is printed then only the sender can cancel. If the sender cancels then they lose their place in FIFO and have to repost the book. |

Yep, as Mary said, it all depends on how things play out....if the book was already re-ordered by the system and sent by someone else, the requestor really has no obligation to you and you're basically out the book and the credit. I actually just had this happen on the other end, as the receiver. I had requested a book last week that was accepted, label printed and then never marked mailed, so the system cancelled it...the book request went to the person with the next available copy, and that person had accepted, printed the label and mailed it very quickly. In fact, it was so quickly that I didn't even realize it was a different person sending me the book because it wasn't until I noticed the cancellation in my Transaction Archive yesterday while I was looking at something else that I saw what happened. I got the book today--from the second sender--so if the book from the first person shows up, I'm not sure how I'll handle it. They never did PM me or anything, so I'm thinking they probably just didn't send it. I'm a big believer in communication, so if that first sender had PM'd me and explained the error, I'd be much more forgiving and likely to send a credit anyway if I did get their book--maybe you'll get lucky too. Thanks ladies....it was a wishlist book, so I doubt there was a second one in the system. I guess it's just a wait and see. |

Well that should work in your favor then. Hopefully it won't get posted to her in the meantime. |

Well if it was a wish list book you should be able to look at her wish list, see if it is still on there, and repost it directly to her. I would PM her first though to let her know what you are doing. Then you can just "pretend" to print the label and mark it mailed. If you used PBS DC, though, you won't get the credit for it. |

She responded to my message yesterday morning to say that she thinks she did receive the book. I asked her to double check and to please mark it received if she does have it. have not yet heard back. Thanks for the advice Bren - I did check and it's still on her wishlist so I sent her another note explaining what I was doing and then listed it to her, waited the hour and marked it shipped. Fingers crossed that it will work! Thanks everyone! |
