I did something really stupid today. I had a book wrpped in a bubble envelope, and with the printed PBS label attached. But, I put it in the mail box - without any postage. Is there anything I can do at this point - any thoughts what  will happen with this?

TIA for any suggestions.

Since the PBS label includes a return address don't worry.  You'll get it back, probably tomorrow or the day after.  Worse case scenario, it goes all the way to its destination, no postage is noticed, and it comes back.

Best case scenario, it gets delivered because no one noticed there was no postage on it.

This just happened to me but I was on the recieving end.  What we did to resolve it was the person just gave me my credits back.  If it makes it all the way to the person and they pay for it you could just give them their credit back, mail them a check in the amount of the postage, or an amazon gift card or something.  They could also refuse it and it will come back to you and they will get their credit back.

I would PM the receiver and let them know what happened. If I got a book with all of the postage due, I would probably return it unless I heard in advance from the sender.

I think it's more likely to be returned to you though.

What Steve said, and Becca's pm advice is good also!  As Lacie notes, there's several ways to handle the situation just wait and see what USPS does.

Thankyou for the responses. I think I'll wait for two days to see if it gets returned to me immediately, if so, then I'll upgrade it to 1st class and send it back on its way. If I don't see it back within two days, I'll PM the receiver, explain the situation, and, if they get charged postage due I'll buddy them a credit - or reimburse them however they would like.

Does that sound like a reasonable plan?

Hey Linda! Things happen and we all make mistakes. Your plan sounds very reasonable. You more than likely will have the book returned to you.

The only hitch... confirm that the return addres is your address - vs the PBS address.

If it is the PBS address - you lost the book - I don't believe PBS will ship it back to you.

You would need to PM the recipient & cancel the transaction. Right?

At least that is not a problem - I use my return address for PBS. The book didn't reappear on my end, so, I have PM'd the member requesting to give them a "heads up". There's not much else to do now but wait and see what happens.

I did this to 2 books recently and amazingly enough the postal service delivered both with no postage due.  I was in shock and ecstatic!!  I felt pretty stupid at the time and PM'd both people that I had sent them to and we made arrangements if there was postage due but it all worked out so maybe you'll get lucky like I did.

I thought I had done this once as well. I pm'd the person and told them that if it arrived postage due-to accept and that I'd refund enough credits to cover the postage.  It turned out that I had actually put stamps on it (it was a small mmp).  It's what I would do again if I made the mistake.

Just an update - the book arrived at its destination today, with postage due. The recipient paid the postage, and I buddy'd them a credit to cover the cost. It all ended well.
