Okay, so here's what I've noticed over the past few weeks:

Deals in the threads, followed by lots of discussion as to how they belong in Bazaar and how some people LIKE the deals here, though even some of these don't like how they interfere with the flow of "chat".  So.... I propose a solution that has been brought up here before, and has been utilized successfully on other boards - simply designating a thread where all deals go in the Children's section.  That way, deals are here for those that want them but aren't cluttering up the chat posts and those that don't like the deals, have ONE thread to ignore instead of 10?

As this has got discussion before and simply hasn't gotten anywhere in terms of a solution that WORKS - becuase people STILL post deals here and others STILL get upset about it and the same discussion happens over and over.

If I can do so without being to forward - why don't we put it to a vote once and for all?  Should we have a forum thread where all deals should be in the Children's forum to help unclutter the chat threads?

It's set up that deals go in the bazaar..the rest of the forums are for discussion. We don't actually get to vote on it.

I like deals too, but I look for them in the bazaar...it would be a good idea for pbs to set up a bazaar for childrens books since there is such a demand for it.

Also, I don't think "pimping" a book is bad.  It's one thing to say..."we loved this book, it's great, your kids will love it too, I just posted it".  That's sharing your love of books...But offering a 3 for 1 deal until the end of the month is a deal that belongs in the bazaar.

I agree with April. The RULES say that deals go to the Bazaar, we don't get to vote. I really dislike that this forum, in particular is so filled with "deals". Just because people do it, doesn't make it right, it just makes many of us avoid this forum. I think the idea of a "Kids Bazaar" is a good one but I DON'T think the discussion forum is the right place for "deals". However, a dedicated sticky thread at the top of the forum wouldn't bother me in the least.

Just to clarify here: I am aware of PBS's guidelines for "deals":

Topics advertising your bookshelf should NOT be started in any forum but the Book Bazaar. Keeping "deals" and the like confined to the Book Bazaar not only unclutters the other forums, but also allows members who post deals to be sure that their deal is seen, and members who seek deals to find them. We have created enough forums to allow a place for anything our members might like to discuss.

However, as I assume most everyone knows, The boards are self-governed and PBS allows us to do what works for us as long as that doesn't violate the basic forum guidelines <a>Forum Guidelines</a><href=http://www.paperbackswap.com/help/search.php?terms=forum+guidelines>

The romance genre, for example, after dealing with the same problem of repeated deals in the thread finally posted a forum for that use.  It can't be made "sticky" because that would have to be done by PBS, but the members there say it generally resides at the top because of its use.  So, to clarify, I wasn't asking for a "vote" on whether deals should be here - I know PBS states where deals should be.  However, the problem exists still and I'm just stating how other boards have dealt with that issue.  From my discussion in other threads, i have been lead to believe that PBS is fine with that.  But, I would be happy to drop them an email to be sure of that if we all think that Posting a Thread for deals here would help our problem of repeated deals cluttering the boards.

A permanent "sticky" thread for deals at the top of the forum wouldn't bother me at all.

Posting a Thread for deals here would help our problem of repeated deals cluttering the boards.

If pbs isn't going to separate it (children's book deals) , than this would be a good compromise.

Let's let this thread go for a few days and see what we come up with.  I'll drop a PM to Richard and ask about if we can get a sticky for children's books in book bazaar or in here, after explaining the problem and making sure of all of your thoughts.

I would like to see a sticky thread for deals here.  In the past I have been reluctant to make my views known, since others are so vocal about having no deals on this forum.  I do enjoy coming here for deals.  Since people have been told over and over not to offer them here, I am not finding good deals like I used to before all of this discussion started.  I think maybe people are not bothering to go to the BB to offer their deals.  I would love to be able to come to this forum and find deals I am most interesed in.  I think the sticky thread would give everyone the best of both, deals available to the people who want them, and discussion without having to wade through the deals!  Signed, Been silent long enough!

I love the idea of a sticky thread. I hate going to the Book Bazaar. There are just too many deals to weed through, and many are not children's. I wish there was a place to view and post children's deals that was streamlined.

I second what Desiree said!  Sometimes the Book Bazaar gets a little exasperating.

Well the general consensus is a sticky!

Does anyone object to me starting a thread here Specifically for deals, and then contacting Robert to make it sticky after we've all 'proofed' it and made sure it says what we want?

Kimberly,

I think the "soon to be sticky" thread about deals sounds good.  Thanks for doing this.
