Or , at least one way they can....

On the 21st I mailed out 6 packages. All to different states and never looked at my receipt. I only look at the receipt when I get delivery conformation.  like when I play a game .and I don't do the printable kind either..

So , anyhow all the books but one have gotten to where they need to go . and I'm thinking the one should have gotten to the receiver by now( I know that  PBS rules  before its considered lost are a month or 30 days..? )    So I started looking into it and seen the post guy who did my packages made a mistake.  He listed 2 of them going to IN ,when only 1 was to go there  and the other to KY. no mention on my receipt of any going to KY , although I did have the right address.. I called the post office and he looked into it for me ,that's how I know what happened. and said there is nothing I can do now but it should make its way to KY only it will take longer, its now in TN.

I did mail late , but did let her know that.  has this happened to anyone else?

I once had a clerk transpose a couple of digits in the zip-code.  The one she keyed was in-state, so I'm sure it was just a habit.  Fortunately, I caught it by the time I got back to my office, so I was able to call and have it fixed before they'd sent it out.

I addressed a package to Canada and the post office shipped it to Costa Verde (in Africa)

I have had PO mis-send 2 things since DEC, one they reversed two digits in the zip code, other one just went totally on the long road to China it seems, but both eventually made it to proper destinations since the addresses on the packages were correct.

Got me.  I've had books coming here from out east go to California and then back here to Nevada.  Doesn't make sense, but there it is.

This was probably due to continental drift.

LOL, Thomas!  One of my favorite bumper stickers:

Stop Plate Tectonics!

I'm sure that causes problems with the mail in Calif, Chile and Peru!

Books occasionally take circuitous routes for no apparent reason. I had one come to me in the city of Chicago from a suburb north of the city, maybe 10 miles, and it went out to Iowa and came back, according to the tracker. They also take long detours far off a straight line, like Dallas to Atlanta to Chicago.

Considering the weather has been so snowy and cold so I haven't been getting 2nd-class magazines (I got two Entertainment Weeklies and two Rolling Stones last week finally), it's not surprising that Media Mail is pushing its deadline dates.

Gosh, I never even considered that the postal clerk might key in the wrong zipcode!  One more thing to worry about......

Interesting, especially from Jeanne - I have had 2 books go missing since Dec as well. One was from me (and mailed at the same time as other books), the other was coming to me. I PM'ed the sender on the one coming to me, and nothing felt "wrong" there - I think they're both just genuinely missing. I have been wondering what's going on - I have had maybe two total missing books since I joined in 2007, prior to this!

My only problems have been with YA titles. Several have gone missing, with no response from the receiver when I PMed to assure them I'd mailed it on time. It could be they're smaller and have more problems going through the system, or it could be something else.  It became enough of a trend that I now donate YA books to my local elementary school instead.
