I'm on my second book by Francine Rivers, and I think she's an amazing author.  I've read Redeeming Love, and am now reading A Voice in the Wind.  So, what I'm wondering is are all her books this good, or have I hit on two of the best?

I can't answer your question, but just wanted to say that I thought "Redeeming Love" was incredible.  It is the only one of hers that I've read so far.

Thanks Deborah!  I've got the next two in the Mark of the Lion series on my wishlist, but I'm afraid it's going to be awhile before I get them.  I may have to request them from my library, because I really don't want to sit around and wait.

Kay, you should read A Voice in the Wind.  I think it started off a bit slow, but it got so good.

Brenda....first, I LOVE her writings!  ALL of them.  I have every book she's written so far, or have it coming to me.  They are in my personal library...I won't be giving them up.  :)

I too just read a Voice in the Wind and LOVED it....was captivated from about page 70 on.  It was slow in the beginning, but just had me glued after that.  I want to give a quick word of advice:  Get books 2 and 3 NOW....you will NOT want to have to wait for Book 2 when you finish Book 1....it will leave you hanging.  (Sorry...not trying to spoil it...just trying to help!)

Enjoy!

Brenda, I do have A Voice in the Wind in my TBR pile.  Thanks for the recommendation.

Amanda, maybe I need to put An Echo in the Darkness and As Sure as the Dawn on my WL.  I was going to read A Voice in the Wind and then decide if I wanted to read the other two...OK, I followed your advice and put those on my WL..  Thanks.

Amanda, I needed that warning a few days ago!  I'm dying here.  I finished the book this morning, and have actually felt depressed because I can't read book 2 right this second, and no other book is good enough to read right now.  I need to figure out a way to get my hands on the next book right now.  I have a friend who has lent me a couple books in the past little bit, who does have books 2 and 3.  I just almost feel bad calling her right now during Christmas time to borrow books.

I just finished reading the whole series a couple weeks ago. (I got mine fromt the library- there is NO way I could have waited!)  It was really incredible. The third book was a lot different than the first two, but  I loved every minute of them.

I went out and bought the second book.  I figured I'd want to own the books anyway, so I might as well buy it.  I've been so busy that I haven't been able to get very far into it, though.  I'll kind of be glad when my husband goes back to work, and my oldest is back in school.  I have more time to read, and less running around, it seems.

I've only read 'The Scarlet Thread' (?? is that right?)  and 'The Last Sin Eater'.  I loved them both and even bought one of them for my mom because I loved it.  Can't wait to read more..so many books, so little time!

I just finished the second book of The Mark of the Lion trilogy.  It was really good.  I went out and bought the third one at B&N today, cause I knew I wouldn't want to wait to start it.  I think I liked the first one best, though.

I just finished the 2nd book in the series a couple nights ago and started book 3 last night (As Sure as the Dawn).  The thing I don't like is that Book 3 is a subplot that actually takes you back in time from Book 2.  It's sorta like The Lion King movies...where there was Lion King 1 1/2, that went back and talked about Timon and Pumba?  That's what this does.  Still VERY good (it must be, I was up till 1:30 last night reading it!), but it's almost like 1 and 2 should be ONE book and then 3 should be a subplot mixed within the two.  ...Anyway, I will continue reading simply b/c it is Rivers writing!  LOL

Brenda, sorry I didn't post here sooner for you!  LOL  Hope you got your hands on a copy!

I agree about book 3 being a subplot.  I kinda don't like it when books in a series start focusing on different characters like this.  I know Atretes was in the first book, but it just doesn't flow.  Why make it a trilogy, then?  Still, like you said, it is very good.

I have this entire series in my TBR pile. What order do you suggest they be read? The post was a little confusing?   Could be b/c Its 12:45 am and i'm tired.  :)

Well, Tessie, it depends.  I would almost read #3 before #2...simply because TIME-wise, that is the order.  HOWEVER, once you read #1, you will want to read #2 immediately due to the story line.  Really, they should be read in order (1-2-3) and just deal with the fact in your mind that you have to go back in time for #3.  So far, #3 deals strictly with Atretes and his issues, and never even brings in the characters from the first 2 books.  It just finishes his story that was started in #1...which was left a bit hanging.  Does that help?  LOL

I agree with Amanda.  You'll have a hard time not picking up #2 immediately.  I'm finding I'm just not as into the third one, honestly.  I think part of it is that Atretes really isn't a likeable character, and I don't know Rizpah.  It's not really the same series I've grown to love, in my mind.  I'm only 40 pages in, though, so maybe it'll get better for me.

I promise you, it gets better. Keep reading it! Atretes is NOT a likeable character, but...without giving away the story, you grow to see yourself in him. In all his faults, he's someone that Christ died for, and all his mistakes makes grace that much more sweet. He's a very human character... even though most of us have (hopefully!!!) never killed a man, let alone hundreds, we all have sins. Many times, like in Redeeming Love, the character traits or past sins that we most find dispicable in ourselves have come from a horrible situation that we should have never been put into in the first place.

It IS a very different book, but I second the notion that you should still read it 1-2-3. Don't skip to #3 before you read the third book, because there are SOME ties that you don't want to spoil for the second book.

Thanks Debby!  I'm definitely not giving up.  I guess I just miss the characters from the first two books.

Brenda,

I agree with you there! Though that's the case with ALL books that I fall in love with. Don't you just hate it when you turn to the page and see either a blank page or "epilogue"? :-) I just don't want to put the book down and feel like I'm leaving friends behind.  I'm sure I'm not the only one who, after finishing a really good book, then reads the back cover, the "about the author" blurb, and any other additions, just to keep from closing the book. :-)

I finished it last night.  The ending was really great, but the book itself kind of frustrated me.  I guess that's what the author was going for with the characters she wrote, though.  Great trilogy!

All of her books are amazing! I read Leota's Garden and it was excellent but my all time favorite by her is The atonement Child. It's on my keeper shelf and I bought one for my mom as well. I have read it at least 4 times and I cried every time. READ IT! I have also ready some of the Lineage of Grace series and they were also wonderful. I have yet to fine any of her books that are not excellent. My mom has the Mark of the Lion series on her favorites list (I have 2 of those on my bookshelf as we speak, they are very popular!). You can't go wrong with Rivers. Hope this helped!

My very favorite is "The Last Sin Eater". I borrowed it but now I am thinking that I want to eventually get it for my keeper shelf. I haven't seen the movie but I am thinking that I need to now.
